You might be aware we are starting catch up swimming lessons for children in Year 4, 5 and 6 who currently cannot swim 25m. This is a National Curriculum requirement that children leave school able to swim that distance but it is also an important life skill that we feel all children should possess. Some of the children that are currently identified as non-swimmers do not have opportunities outside of school to be able to learn how to swim so it is extremely important we are able to provide those opportunities as best we can. 

This is where we need your help.

Each week, we need 3 parent volunteers to accompany one of our HLTA’s to and from Everyone Active Acton (the swimming pool). Ideally this would be the same 3 volunteers who were able to commit to a block of 6 lessons before a new set of volunteers were able to commit to the following block of 6 lessons. Your child does not need to be in the group of swimmers in order for you to volunteer you just need to be willing to help us provide the opportunity to learn to whichever group are going. 

Swimmers leave school at 10.30am each Friday starting on the 17th September to travel via coach. Volunteers would meet outside the school reception to walk children along Wyndham Road to the coach which will be parked at Coombe Road. When we arrive at the pool, volunteers help supervise the children as we walk into the centre and to the changing rooms. Volunteers would then sit in the poolside viewing area for the swimming lesson between 11.30 – 12.00pm before helping to supervise the children change back into dry clothes so we are ready to leave on the coach at 12.30pm. We will then be arriving back at Fielding just before 1.00pm.  

At no point will parent volunteers be alone with children in any of the changing areas. 

It is a really important opportunity that we want to be able to offer our children so if you are able to give up some of your Friday morning on a regular basis it would be hugely appreciated by the school and the children.
