Year 3 children have begun to explore writing a newspaper article this week in English reporting Oliver Twist’s arrest. The children have had the opportunity to do a ‘cold write’ without any teacher input to see if they can remember how to write a newspaper article from their work in Year 2. Then, reflection skills are used to help children analyse their ‘cold write’ so they can identify next steps in their writing. The children will then use their next steps to create a plan for their first draft based on features of a newspaper article. Miss Oliver stated, “It is clear how much the children are developing their reflection skills and using these to edit and improve their work, adding in new learning.”
