Relationship Lessons in the Summer Term (Year 1 - Year 6)

During the summer term, our RSHE (Relationships, Sex, and Health Education) lessons will focus on relationships across the school. As part of this, RSE (Relationships and Sex Education) lessons will be included in the summer term curriculum.

Statutory Relationships Lessons

Relationships lessons are a statutory part of the curriculum and are taught in an age-appropriate and respectful way. Pupils in Years 4–6 will be split by gender for some topics, such as puberty and menstruation. The content for each year group will be shared on year group noticeboards.

Non-Statutory Elements of RSE

There are two non-statutory elements within our RSE curriculum:

  • Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) – Covered in Year 4 and Year 6 in an age-appropriate single lesson.

  • Human Reproduction and Conception – Taught in Year 6 during the final RSE lesson.

Parents are welcome to view the lesson resources beforehand and discuss any concerns with their child’s class teacher.

Year Group Timetable

  • Year 4: FGM will be taught during the week beginning 9th June.

  • Year 6: FGM will be taught during the week beginning 26th May

  • Year 6: RSE lessons will begin from the week beginning 5th May and 19th May. The first few lessons will cover puberty and menstruation, followed by the non-statutory lesson on reproduction and conception.

Our RSE lessons have been carefully planned with thorough research and consideration. If you have any questions or concerns, please speak to your child’s class teacher, who will be happy to share the lesson materials with you.
