Ealing Council are proposing to implement a School Streets scheme around our school. Over the next few weeks, Ealing Council’s School Travel team will be letting people in the local area know about proposals to implement a School Street for our school.

Since 2020 the Council has been implementing School Streets, where the roads around a school are closed to most vehicles for a short period of time (usually around an hour) at the start and end of the school day. Pupils, parents and neighbours of 43 schools and education providers are now benefitting from a School Street – that's almost 21,000 children and young people across the borough.

 

With fewer cars on the roads School Streets helps pupils feel safer on their school journey, walking, scooting and cycling has increased, and air quality in the borough has improved around schools by reducing congestion in these areas at peak times.

 

A School Street for Fielding Primary School
So far, the boroughs School Streets programme has seen:

• a reduction in school-related car use of up to 18%
• an increase in active travel (walking, scooting, cycling) of up to 29%.

 

Now that the Council has a proven track record of success, the Council is progressing with Schools Street schemes for schools and education providers in suitable locations, unless there is a compelling reason not to. Suitability means that the Council believes the School Street won’t cause problems for traffic or parking in the local area during its operational hours.

 

The Council has assessed the location of Fielding Primary School as suitable. The Council is now asking the school and local community if they know of any unique local circumstances they might have missed, that they should consider before confirming the scheme. The proposed times are 8.30 to 9.15am and 3.00 to 4.00pm.
