ARP building works - risk of loud noise for 3 weeks

Construction works of our new single storey building for pupils with special educational needs continues. Ground works, including foundations, drains and the floor base are complete. Contractors now move on to the next phase of works.

Prefabricated wall panels, constructed off-site, will be delivered by heavy vehicles and lifted into place by a mobile crane. These works start on Monday and are expected to last for up to 3 weeks. Building contractors tell us that the fitting of the wall panels with nail guns may result in high levels of continuous noise.

I have written to parents and talked to pupils in classes most likely to be affected by the works. We are reducing the risk of noise from the work disturbing classes. Our external CDM Adviser, Roxanne Perveen, has told the contractors to:

  • add acoustic screens to safety fencing to reduce noise,
  • limit working, to take place between 9am to 3pm with a break of 1 hour around lunchtime.

On Monday, Roxanne will be on site to measure sound levels.

If needed, we will move classes 3F, 3S, 6S, 6P and 4P to ICT rooms or vacant classrooms when classrooms are empty while other age groups are taking part in PE and music lessons.
