Boys PEAL Shield vs Hobbayne

Today, the boys Performance team played Hobbayne in the PEAL Shield. The game was played on the field and this was the first time hosting on it since the new grass had been laid.

The boys got off to a fierce start, controlling the ball well and a high number of passes inside Hobbayne’s area. Zain (6P) and Oscar (6P) linked up well down the right hand side, with Oscar (6P) having a great shot hit off the crossbar, just inches from going in the back of the net. Matt (6S) was making multiple runs in behind Hobbayne’s midfield with some key passes down the left hand side, creating goal scoring opportunities. Yaqoob (6S) demonstrated quick feet and after dribbling past 2 defenders was so unlucky not to score. The boys were on top in the game and cold feel the goal coming and shortly after it did with Ahmed (6F) slotting the ball into the goal. With spirits lifted and getting the first goal, Fielding searched for the second and this followed with a number of good chances. Shortly before half time, their efforts were rewarded with a second goal and another for Ahmed (6F).

At half time, we were very unlucky to go in only 2 goals up but the boys were confident and knew we just needed to play the same way again.

The game started very much like the first half, with Fielding dominating the ball and creating a number of chances, Sev (6S) almost scored from a corner, only for Hobbayne to make a goal-line clearance. With Rory’s (5S) trickery on the ball, he skipped past the defender to pick out a great pass to Zain (6P) who played it into Tem (6F) who managed to dribble past his defender with precision but his shot only just missed. The football displayed was high quality and this was helped by Charlie (6H) posing as a calming influence in goal but also his distribution and range of passing to start attacks from the back, with a pinpoint pass through Hobbayne’s midfield that nearly resulted in a goal. The third goal came after a deflection off a Hobbayne defender resulting in an own goal. Daniel (6F) showed great defensive awareness to win the ball, stopping a counterattack and went on to dribble and shoot, only just hitting it over the crossbar. The fourth and final ball came after Ahmed (6F) showed amazing determination to close down the goalkeeper, win the ball and score.

Final Score: 4-0

Goal Scorers - Ahmed x 3, Own goal

Well done to all the boys for today’s performance and result!
