Reception to Year 6 high academic achievement

Pupils in every age group have achieved highly this school year, rising to the challenge of higher expectations in each age group as a result of very effective teaching, their own determination and support from families at home.

Reception, end of Early Years Foundation Stage

  • 84% of children achieved a 'good level of development', showing their readiness to start learning in Year 1.
  • 3 year increasing trend from just in-line with the national average in 2014 as a result of better assessment and learning opportunities.
  • 98% of children making typical or better progress with up to 45% of children making better than expected progress reflecting our high expectations and sufficient challenge for all pupils.

Year 1, phonics screening check

  • 98% of pupils met the standard for phonics
  • 4 year increasing trend from below the national average in 2013 as a result of improved and consistent phonics teaching from Nursery and Reception.
  • Every disadvantaged pupil met the expected standard, giving these pupils the best possible start to reading for Year 2.
  • 90% or more of pupils making expected progress in reading, writing and maths from the end of Reception, with around half working at the highest level (greater depth).

Year 2, end of Key-Stage 1

  • High reading and maths outcomes, likely to be above the national average, lower in writing because pupils had low starting points from the end of Reception.
  • High achievement for disadvantaged pupils who met national standards and made rapid progress.
  • Rapid progress in writing to catch-up from low starting points at the end of Reception.

Years 3, 4, 5

  • Very high proportion of pupils working at age-related expectations in reading, writing and maths
  • Vast majority of pupils making expected progress, including sufficient challenge for most-able pupils who are generally working at greater depth.
  • Sustained progress for disadvantaged pupils who mostly make the same progress as other pupils in school.

Year 6, end of Key-Stage 2

  • Above the national average in all areas especially maths. Maths has become our strongest subject area, followed by writing, grammar and then reading.
  • Progress measures are due to be released by the government in September.
