Fielding win Silver at Women's Euros Football

On Tuesday, Fielding took the Year 5&6 girls football team to Spikes Bridge Park to compete in a special Women's Euros Football Competition to get the girls inspired for the main competition this Summer. Each school was drawn a country which they would represent and we had the pleasure of representing France.

We were drawn in a group with Sweden (Allenby), England (Dormers Wells) and Spain (Oaklands B) and were due to play Sweden first. It was a nervy first game as the girls finished 0-0. This was trend in the first few games with the other schools too as the opening 3 games of the group finished 0-0. Our second game was against England and we found our stride in this game as we won 2-0. We then went into our final game against Spain, represented by Oaklands B and beat them 2-0 as well to top the group.

In the Quarter Finals we were drawn against Italy (Woodlands Academy) and although we put on a lot of pressure struggled to score. We eventually did and won 1-0 to go through to the semi finals.

Mount Carmel who were representing Belgium awaited us in the semi finals. Our girls were excellent and raced to a 3-0 win to set up another cup final against Oaklands A.

The Women's Euros Final was to be played out by France, represented by our girls and Germany, represented by Oaklands A. It was a great game and although we were under pressure we did an excellent job defensively to frustrate the Oaklands attack. After 12 minutes of play the final whistle was blown and it was 0-0 and went to extra time. Extra time started and again we were under pressure but this time we couldn't keep them out and they went 1-0 up. After that, we lost a little bit of concentration and eventually lost the game 3-0.

A huge well done to the girls football team though for reaching yet another cup final. Just a shame we have met an extremely strong Oaklands team each time!
