Highest ever year 6 SATS results

Most year 6 pupils met the expected standard for their age in reading, writing and maths combined with nearly 1 in 3 reaching the higher standard. These are the highest year 6 results pupils at Fielding have ever achieved.

87% of our pupils met the expected standard in these combined areas this year, compared to 83% last year. Nationally, 59% of pupils met the expected level, unchanged from 2022.

Most year 6 pupils leave Fielding working at or above the expected standard for their age in individual subjects:

  • Reading, 90%
  • Writing, 92%
  • Maths, 91%

These outcomes are well above national figures. Reading is better than previous years. Nationally, reading outcomes fell.

Many pupils have achieved highly, working above the standard, with around half of the age group working above the expected standard in individual subjects:

  • Reading, 54%
  • Writing, 42%
  • Maths, 49%

These outcomes are excellent and are better than previous years, especially in reading.

These results are a credit to children, their families and teachers, especially given the impact of the pandemic. The pupils who took these tests this year were part-way through year 3 when schools first closed to most children in March 2020. Further school closures followed while they were in year 4.

Individual results will be given to pupils and parents in annual pupil progress reports, published today.

National tests in 2020 and 2021 were cancelled due to the pandemic.

School performance tables, also known as 'league tables' will be published by the government later this year. We will receive comparative performance information in the Autumn term.
