Today, Fielding hosted St Josephs in the PEAL Shield. We started off well keeping possession of the ball and working it into St Josephs final third, creating some good chances but could not find the goal we were searching for. St Josephs took the lead with a finish inside the area and at this point we knew we needed to react and get the next goal. After lots of pressing, we won the ball and Ahmed (6F) hit a fantastic shot into the bottom left hand corner putting us back on level terms. We had to sustain a lot of pressure from St Josephs as they kept trying to break through our defence, however Oscar (6P) done superbly to intercept the passes and calmly keep possession and pick out some pin-point passes. Despite the boys’ efforts, we went into half time 2-1 down and knew if we kept doing the right things, the next goal would come, we just had to believe. We started the half well pressing high up and forcing St Josephs to turn over the ball and had a number of shots that were unlucky not to go in. Ahmed (6F) and Tem (6F) linked up well down the right hand side, with Tem (6F) going through on goal but St Josephs goalkeeper made a great save to deny him. The goal finally came when Tem (6F) received the ball, played a pass down the line to Ahmed (6F) who hit a first time shot which the goalkeeper parried, allowing Yaqoob to follow up with the finish to draw us level. Towards the end, with both teams going for the goal, Charlie (6H) had to pull off a fantastic reaction save.
