How do you travel to school?

A hands-up travel survey of pupils in class shows that most pupils travel to school by walking, cycling or scootering. Far more pupils get to school by scooter, bike, bus or train/tube than by car:

  • Walk to school, 62%
  • Scooter, 14%
  • Cycle, 8%
  • Bus, train or tube, 3%
  • Car, 13%

Thanks to most families for travelling to school in a healthy and sustainable way.

These proportions are unchanged since our last travel survey. Pupils tell us that just over 100 of them usually travel to school by car. Reasons vary from living too far away or being dropped off by parents on the way to work. Some of these pupils live less than half-a-mile away from school but travel by car. Our school travel plan sets a target to reduce car use to below 10%:

  • If you drive to school, could you walk, even on some days?
  • Could you park in surrounding roads and walk the last part of your journey?
