Risk of closure: industrial action

On Monday, the National Education Union (NEU) announced that its ballot of teacher members in England has met the thresholds required to start industrial action:

  • main school, Reception - year 6, risk of closures;
  • Nursery, likely to remain open.

The NEU has the largest union membership of teachers at Fielding compared to other unions.

The NEU has announced national and regional action in England. There is a risk that the main school will close to pupils. Parents may wish to make contingency arrangements:

  • Wednesday 1 February 2023: all eligible members in England and Wales.
  • Thursday 2 March 2023: all eligible members in London, South East & South West regions.
  • Wednesday 15 March 2023: all eligible members in England and Wales.
  • Thursday 16 March 2023: all eligible members in England and Wales.

Nursery is likely to remain open to children because ballots of other members of staff did not reach the 50% turnout required by law for industrial action. This includes support staff members of the NEU and teacher members of the NASWUT and NAHT.

We will work with teachers, complete our risk assessment and publish closure or partial opening arrangements as soon as we can.
