Thank you. Looking back and ahead

Thanks to all families for your continued support this school year. We started the year working under COVID-19 restrictions, found a 'new normal', before finishing the year with a heatwave!

We end this school year feeling proud of pupils' achievements and optimistic about the next school year:

  • overall, most pupils, including those with special educational needs, are achieving academically as well now as they did before the pandemic;
  • a key strength continues to be enabling pupils to read by matching letters to sounds;
  • pupils know and remember more from our exceptional, broad and balanced curriculum, with notable excellence in music, French and PE;
  • pupils take part in as many co-curricular opportunities as before with a rich programme of specialist clubs and other opportunities in school;
  • and enjoy the support of the whole school community, including through the work of the PTFA.

For us, there is no sense of complacency and there are areas of our work where we can do even better and offer pupils more. Looking ahead to the next school year, priorities include:

  • writing,
  • getting ready to welcome pupils into the ARP and then to integrate into the main school,
  • better matching curriculum to the needs of pupils who have special educational needs,
  • filling gaps in learning for some of our disadvantaged pupils who were most affected by school closure,
  • improving how pupils understand themselves and how they treat others,
  • changes to our reporting and parent consultation meetings based on your feedback,
  • reducing food waste at lunchtimes with a new ordering system for pupils in year 3 upwards - details to follow early September.

We anticipate an Ofsted inspection by the end of the Spring Term 2023.

Investment in our facilities continue. The all-weather, multi-sport playing surface and complete re-laying and seeding of the remaining grass field will offer superb sport and play opportunities for our pupils - albeit with a little inconvenience now and at the start of next year. Building of the Wyndham ARP for up to 27 pupils with special educational needs is on-course for completion at the end of October 2022 with pupils joining our school from January 2023. New carpets in classrooms from year 3 to 6 and new technology screens for teaching will also be installed.

We say goodbye to some of our colleagues as they move on to the next stage of their career or life plans, including much loved and respected Mrs Gill, Higher Level Teaching Assistant, who retires. We thank and wish them all the best.
