Y5 & 6 Boys Performance Team vs St Marks - PEAL Shield

Today, we hosted the PEAL Shield game vs St Marks. This was the first time meeting since the cup final in September and with both teams level on points in the league table, there was everything to play for.

With Charlie (6H) unable to play due to illness, a last minute change to our team was made with Zain (6P) agreeing to step in as the replacement goalkeeper. We made an extremely quick start to the match with Ahmed (6F) scoring from close range to put us into the lead. We carried on the momentum and pressure, creating more good chances but were unable to capitalise on it. St Marks played a through ball through our defence and scoring. With the score at 1-1, we knew we needed to push on and get the next goal and it came shortly after with a great strike from Daniel (6F) to make it 2-1. Yaqoob (6S) was persistent in his pressing and was awarded when he won the ball, dribbled and finished with a well executed shot to make it 3-1 to Fielding. St Marks continued to come back with an attack and despite Zain (6P) making an abundance of saves, they finally scored with two quick successive goals to level the game at 3-3.

The second half started very cagey with both teams playing wary and tactfully and Tem (6F) was unlucky not to put us into the lead with a fantastic dribble but was unable to get his shot away. Unfortunately, St Marks got the goal after half time to put them in the lead. As we pushed on, searching for that equalising goal, St Marks scored another to make it 5-3.

The match ended in defeat for us, however we will analyse this performance and see what we can do to ensure we get the result next time, but well done to all the boys for their efforts and never giving up until the very last kick of the game! Lastly, thank you to Zain (6P) for showing outstanding resilience playing in goal today and despite this not being his natural position, he made a number of high quality saves!
