This week, Year One children have been learning how to write instructional texts. We have read and discussed the book Growing Vegetable Soup by Lois Ehlert. We looked at the features of instructional writing. The children learned about imperative (bossy) verbs and how these are used in writing instructions. The children had a selection of imperative verbs and they mimed the action to their partner. “I had fun demonstrating the verbs chop, hop, laugh” said Luke, 1S, enthusiastically. The children will be applying their knowledge next week when they write their own set of instructions.
