Year 6 Excellent outcomes at end of key-stage 2

80% 'secondary ready'

Four out of every five Fielding Year 6 leavers have reached the government's expected standard (or above) in reading, writing and maths assessments combined.  This headline measure of school performance shows how many pupils leave a primary school 'ready' for secondary school.  The school has focused effort this year on improving this measure resulting in the large increase in pupils reaching 'secondary readiness'.  Last year, 66% of our leavers met the standard, compared to 61% of Year 6 pupils nationally.

Nearly a quarter of our pupils (23%) reached the higher standard in reading, writing and maths combined; compared to 21% last year and just 9% nationally.

Results in individual subject areas also improved where at least 85% of pupils met the expected standard in reading, writing or maths.  Our largest gains were in writing, where more pupils than ever before reached the higher standard (50%) reflecting improvements made to the teaching of writing over the last 3 years.  In reading and maths, 47% and 36% reached the higher standard respectively.

Maths continues to be an area of improvement for the school.  This year, year groups 1,2,3,4 & 5 have changed teaching to deepen pupils learning, resulting in more children in these age-groups working at greater depth.

Year 6 results were published by the DfE a week later than previous years.  Results will be posted to parents by Royal Mail tomorrow.
