Finding out what your child knows and remembers, assessment this term

Your child’s class teacher will be assessing your child’s learning during the first few weeks of term. This is to help us carefully plan our teaching so that any gaps that may have arisen due to school closure can be closed. In Years 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 children will take part in the NFER reading and mathematics assessments that they would have completed in the summer term had they been at school.

Find out more here about how we assess your children’s learning and share their progress with you:

Teachers in all year groups will also be assessing children’s writing ability and reading fluency (this includes phonics for children in reception, Year 1 and 2).

The government have asked us to administer the annual phonics check that should have taken place in June to children in Year 2 this term. This will take place after the October break. Any children who do not meet the required standard will have take part in catch-up teaching and will re-sit the phonics check in June.

Your child’s class teacher will upload the outcomes of their assessments to My Child at School (MCAS). These will be available to view from 30th September. Find out how to access your child’s assessments here:

You will have an opportunity to discuss these outcomes via a virtual parents consultation meeting, on the 5th or 12th of October. These will take place on Microsoft Teams. You can book your appointment on MCAS from 10am on 14th September. Find out more:
