At Fielding, the children take the lead in choosing three charities to support throughout the year. The final charity event of this year supports the work of Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) on Tuesday 16^th July. To mark the occasion, children are asked to wear a purple item with their school uniform, which is the charity’s recognisable colour and make a monetary donation. Throughout the day children will also be taking part in ‘buddy reading’ in which older children will read excerpts of Peter Pan to younger children.

 

J M Barrie, the author of Peter Pan, gifted the rights of the story to GOSH in 1929 and since then, the childhood favourite has become synonymous with the wonderful work that takes place at the hospital. Barrie moved from Scotland and lived close to the hospital, which provided the inspiration for the Darlings’ family home.

 

We are looking forward to children sharing parts of this wonderful story and seeing a ‘sea of purple’ in support for this wonderful charity on Tuesday 16^th July.
