Multi-use games area and new entrance consultation

Your views

School leaders and the Governing Body are proposing to build a multi-use games area (MUGA) and additional pedestrian entrance for pupils and parents from Fielding Walk.

Before we finalise our plans and apply for any planning permission, we are seeking the views of parents and local residents.

If you would like to contribute your views, please answer our on-line questionnaire, provided by Survey Monkey by Friday 8th July, 9am.

Proposal

Multi-use games area (MUGA)

We propose building a 39m x 19m multi-use games area with a surface suitable for a wide range of sports including tennis, hockey, football, basketball and netball.

The MUGA will be located in the south-west corner of the school site, next to Fielding Walk and the rear of neighbouring properties in Midhurst Road.  The games area will be placed 2-3m (approx.) inside the existing boundary fence of the school site.

A dedicated, green coloured, fence will surround the MUGA pitch up to a height of 3m.  This fencing is designed to minimise the sound of balls bouncing off the boundary.  Two sets of entrance gates will be installed to provide access from the school site and directly from the footpath in Fielding Walk.

Flood lights will be erected to enable evening use of the MUGA, especially during winter months.

The MUGA will be used:

  • Term-time, weekdays, 7.45am-5.30pm, for morning sports clubs, PE teaching, and after-school sports clubs.
  • School holidays, 7.45-5.30pm, for holiday childcare club.
  • All year round, weekdays, from 6pm for rental to any community groups.
  • All year round, weekends, for rental to any community groups.

For community groups, toilets, kitchen facilities and rooms to change are available within the existing School House.

Additional pedestrian entrance to Fielding Walk

We propose installing a footpath to run from the school buildings to a new entrance to the footpath in Fielding Walk.  The footpath will be situated adjacent to the MUGA.

This new pedestrian entrance will be open to pupils and parents for the main school morning drop off (around 8.45am) and after-school collection (3.15-3.45pm).

New gates and lighting will be installed on the Fielding Walk boundary.

Trees will be planted to follow the line of the footpath inside the school site with bench style seating spaced along the length of the path for parents use at drop-off/collection times and for pupils during the school day.
