Playground behaviour and supervision,

Next steps...

Following the annual parent survey and work with Keith Adams, external consultant, we have already made the following changes:

  • Improved the organisation of playground supervision at break and lunchtimes, including giving each age group named lunchtime supervisors and beginning to strengthen links and relationships between each supervisor and our children.
  • Provided even more training for lunchtime staff about play, behaviour management and the importance of their role.  From September, lunchtime supervision will be carried out by playworkers who will also work in our new Nursery, giving them an even better understanding of how children play and develop social skills.
  • Strengthened our teaching of personal and social education for older children to focus more on the things that matter to them now, including how they show our values through all aspects of school.
  • Adjusted how we respond to concerns about bullying, including how we communicate and follow-up any incidents with parents.

We are now going to also:

  • Increase availability of resources in the playground so that there are more things for more children to enjoy.  We also need to better manage how all age groups play together, taking turns to share things.
  • Continue to carefully monitor children’s behaviour and attitudes in school.
