Reception excellent learning outcomes

Most pupils ready for Year 1

85% of pupils in Reception this year, including all disadvantaged pupils, have achieved the government's 'good level of development' standard, reflecting their readiness to start learning in Year 1.

Last year, 83% of Fielding's pupils achieved a good level of development compared to 71% of children nationally.  Fielding's results have improved year-on-year or remain very high since 2013 when the school was just in line with the national average.

Children are defined as having reached a good level of development at the end of the Early Years if they have achieved at least the expected level in:

  • the early learning goals in the prime areas of learning (personal, social and emotional development; physical development; and communication and language)
  • the early learning goals in the specific areas of mathematics and literacy.

Girls perform slightly better than boys although our gender gap of 10 percentage points is less than that nationally.

Teachers have carefully planned learning this year so that pupils develop holistically across a wide range of areas in the Early Years Foundation Stage.
