Year 3 learning about Pompeii

Year 3 have been building on their understanding of Pompeii and extreme Earth by investigating the causes and effects of volcanic eruptions and earthquakes. In English, we have begun to write our final draft of our eye witness account, giving children the opportunity to put themselves into the shoes of characters that experienced the force of Mount Vesuvius. By doing this we are able to use all of our descriptive writing skills to give detailed descriptions of the eruption. The children have been working hard to include and show off all of the grammar skills that they have learnt throughout Year 3. In design and technology, the children have been investigating how we can create an interactive book using different mechanisms to create a pop-up book on Pompeii. This also links to our Fielding Learning Challenge Curriculum Question, ‘What makes the Earth angry?’ where the children have been learning about natural disasters. Miss Allen, Year 3 Lead Teacher, has said, ‘It’s great to see how the children are able to carry their knowledge and understanding across the curriculum.’
