  • Annual Parent Survey Results

    Fri 23 Feb 2018

    Thank you for your responses to the Annual Parent Survey

    This year we had a lower response rate than previous years with responses from 288 families representing 434 pupils, this is down from 613 pupils last year and 565 pupils in 2015-16.

    You told us that the things you most like about Fielding are:

    • Teaching and learning including the ‘commitment’ from our ‘professional caring’ teachers and the ‘the passion for providing children the best possible education’ (113 comments);
    • Outdoor space and environment, including the forest, field and all of our facilities (36 comments);
    • The community spirit of the school, including a ‘small school feel’ but all the opportunities and benefits of size (35 comments).
    • Values-based education, including the care and compassion that all adults show to children, our welcoming, friendly ethos (33 comments);
    • Opportunities for sport, music, teams, variety of clubs and specialist teaching (24 comments).

    Parents would most like to change or improve:

    • Communication, wanting more proactive, transparent communication regarding key decisions (41 comments);
    • Clubs, including availability and booking arrangements (23 comments);
    • Implementation of the behaviour policy including stronger sanctions for repeated poor behaviour and playground supervision (15 comments).

    We are delighted that our main strengths have been so positively recognised by parents. The Governing Body and school leaders will begin to consider the highlighted areas for improvement over the next few months. We also recognise that some parents have highlighted other individual strengths and areas for development.

Older pupils in the school will be visiting younger ones to buddy up for some paired reading and story-telling sessions and pupils will be entering the 'design a national book token competition.'

    On the day, your child will receive a world book day token which will enable them to pick up a free world book day book or money off at their local bookseller or the book fair which will return to Fielding throughout the week beginning 26th February-2nd March. • EMS Music Concerts - NEXT WEEK

    Thu 22 Feb 2018 Michael Mappin

    The EMS concerts take place next week.  The running order is exactly as it was when your child received her/his timetable back in September WITH ONE CHANGE:  the flute concert has had to be moved to the morning.  (This is to avoid a clash with another event, and is totally Mr Mappin's fault...sorry.)

    Please note the information on the schedule about guitar and 'cello concerts.

  • Important Changes to the Nursery Education Grant (government funding known as NEG)

    Tue 20 Feb 2018 Tracy Cherry

    As you know the Nursery Education Grant (government funding, known as NEG) is awarded annually to eligible parents of nursery aged children. Each child receives 15 hours of funded Nursery care. Eligible working parents receive an additional 15 hours Nursery care, up to a maximum of 30 hours per week. Schools can make a charge for additional ‘general extras’ including, consumable resources, meals and snacks, up until now we have been covering a proportion of these ‘general extras’ from the Nursery Education Grant, with a small charge of 50p per hour to parents (£2.50 per session).

    Following a consultation period, from April 1st 2018 the Government funding rate to schools will be reduced from £4.90 per hour to £4.68 per hour. Our nursery session fees will remain the same, so in real terms this means Nursery fees for those hours covered by the Nursery Education Grant will increase by 0.22p per hour to 0.72p per hour (£3.60 per session) to cover the ‘general extras’.

    There will be no change to fees for hours taken outside the 15/30 hours Nursery care entitlement.

    Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

  • Shin pads and gum shields available for purchase for KS2 Curriculum Hockey

    Fri 09 Feb 2018
    After half term, KS2 children will focusing their PE learning on the sport of Quicksticks Hockey. This form of the game is a smaller sided version of the game played with bigger, lighter balls to make it easier and safer for the children while they are learning the game. Lessons are always taught within a safe and controlled environment at Fielding and although it is not compulsory that children wear protection in the form of shin pads and gum shields, it is recommended. If children are not wearing shin pads and gum shields they will still take part in PE lessons but could be more prone to injury in the unlikely event that a hockey stick catches them on a shin or the ball bounces up in to the air. In order to make it easier for parents to get shin pads or mouth guards for their children, this year the school has purchased a small stock in order to pass on to parents at cost price.  Shin pads can be purchased for £4.00 and gum shields for £1.50 via laser. Once payment has been confirmed, equipment will be delivered to your child.
  • Cycle and scooter storage works, Wyndham Road

    Fri 09 Feb 2018 Peter Dunmall

    A huge new cycle and scooter shelter will be installed at the Wyndham Road entrance during half-term.  The shelter is currently installed at North Acton railway station but is being removed as part of the station's own improvement works.  Ealing Council has kindly offered to install the shelter at Fielding to meet our high demand for cycle and scooter storage.

    The shelter will be positioned by the pedestrian entrance at Wyndham Road and will span the length of the footpath opposite the existing bin stores.

    Ground works to clear shrubs and prepare the surface will take place during half-term.  The shelter is then planned to be installed immediately after half-term.  During this time, the pedestrian gate will be closed.  Pedestrian access will switch to the vehicle entrance gates with bollards preventing vehicle movement at our main drop-off and collection times.
