  • Find out more from pupils about our values baccalaureate awards.

Wed 29 Nov 2023 Clare Haines

Our Values Baccalaureate programme is unique to Fielding, based on our Values-based education approach. It helps pupils understand the meaning of our core values.

Pupils in years 4, 5 and 6  work towards the Fielding Values Baccalaureate. To achieve this, pupils must demonstrate how they have used our four core values across the  school, home and local & wider community. This empowers pupils to apply their learning about values in a range of ways and for these values to further become part of their character.

There are four levels of the Baccalaureate:

    • bronze, usually completed during year 4
    • silver, usually completed during year 5
    • gold, usually completed during year 6
    • platinum, for those pupils who reach gold earlier and who wish to deepen or continue their application of our values to their lives

These levels give pupils opportunities to apply and sustain the values ethos and learning over a long period of time, in a range of situations. Pupils are required to complete task cards and provide evidence for the stages.  The key part is working through the programme, enjoying new experiences and reflecting on own achievement.

Find out more from our pupils:

Pupils should put together a short, simple portfolio, this is submitted to class teachers to show achievement of tasks and results in the awards being issued.

See our current hall of fame and leader boards here:

  • Healthy snacks and lunch box ideas

Wed 29 Nov 2023 Clare Haines

    Packed Lunches

We know that keeping packed lunches healthy, affordable and interesting for children can be tricky.

Our advice is to aim for a balanced diet across a week. To help with this please keep ‘treat’ food such as crisps, chocolate and sugary drinks (including fruit juice) for home.

Take a look at the NHS healthier lunchbox website for more information:

Stuck for ideas or wondering about portion size? This guide from My Healthy Living is very useful. It also has some great ideas on what you could swap sugary snacks for:

Packed lunches should be nut and nut product free.

We ask pupils who do not eat all of their packed lunch to take home what they have not eaten so that you can see what they have left.

    Snacks

Children in Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and 2 are provided a fruit snack, no need to send one in. However if you do, please only send fruit, and remind your child that snacks should not be shared (to limit potential exposure to allergens).

  • Handwriting resources for parents

    Tue 28 Nov 2023

At Fielding, we use the 'Teach Handwriting Scheme, 'which has been developed to provide a whole school (pupils aged 4 to 11 years old), differentiated, holistic approach to teaching handwriting.

Many parents have recently asked teachers how they can support their child's pencil/pen grip and handwriting development at home, so we would like to share resources from their website: https://teachhandwriting.co.uk/parents.html. Here, you can find animations, videos and printable sheets which will reinforce your child's progress at school.

We teach pupils to form cursive letters in Year 1 (which start on the line) and then how to join them in Year 2 onwards. If you feel that your child requires support with joining their letters, you may like to use the following animations and worksheets: https://teachhandwriting.co.uk/continuous-cursive-joins.html
