Fielding
Primary School and Nursery
Keep up to date with all the news happening in the school at the moment. Articles are added during the week. Parents are encouraged to check regularly. Our weekly bulletin, emailed directly to parents, summarises content for the week.
Fielding will be celebrating World Book Day during the afternoon of next Friday 4th March. Please click here to read further details.
Construction works of our new single storey building for pupils with special educational needs continues. Ground works, including foundations, drains and the floor base are complete. Contractors now move on to the next phase of works.
Prefabricated wall panels, constructed off-site, will be delivered by heavy vehicles and lifted into place by a mobile crane. These works start on Monday and are expected to last for up to 3 weeks. Building contractors tell us that the fitting of the wall panels with nail guns may result in high levels of continuous noise.
I have written to parents and talked to pupils in classes most likely to be affected by the works. We are reducing the risk of noise from the work disturbing classes. Our external CDM Adviser, Roxanne Perveen, has told the contractors to:
On Monday, Roxanne will be on site to measure sound levels.
If needed, we will move classes 3F, 3S, 6S, 6P and 4P to ICT rooms or vacant classrooms when classrooms are empty while other age groups are taking part in PE and music lessons.
Alongside our planned roll-out of in-school assemblies and events we will be welcoming parents back to our live events. This will start in 3 weeks time with our EMS ensemble concerts. The concerts will take place in week beginning Monday 21st March. Miss Neil-Smith will be publishing the full timetable early next week so please look out for it. We will then be inviting Year 3 parents to our 'Easter Show (assembly)' on 30th and 31st March.
We are starting with the concert and Easter show as these events will take place in the main hall, which is a large well-ventilated space. This hopefully also give those parents who wish to attend enough notice.
At the moment we are not returning to events in classrooms because rooms are too small to ventilate and distance when pupils and parents are present at the same time.
If all goes to plan, class sharing assemblies with an adult audience will start from Friday 22 April (after the Easter holiday).
We will continue to focus on good ventilation and hand-washing. Adults in school and parents may still wear a face covering if they choose to.
In school assemblies for the children will be returning to face to face assemblies in the halls. We plan to roll these out over a period of time so that we can review the impact on infection and revert to remote assemblies if necessary.
Assembly roll out for children:
Year group assemblies, from Monday 28 February, Halls
Phase assemblies, including singing assemblies, from Monday 14 March, Halls
Whole school assemblies (by class letter) from Monday 25 April, Halls
Childcare
Return to full mixing of pupil age groups from Monday 28 February

Thank you for highlighting communication in the parent survey as both a strength and an area for us to work on. Over the next few weeks & months we will be looking at how we can continue to improve our communication with you.
You have told us that we have too many channels of communication and that you would like more individual information regarding how well your child is doing in school. We follow the Governing Board's parent/school communication charter that was put together by the Governing Board and a parent working group.
We have three main channels of communication:
1. Latest News, this published on our website and updated throughout the week, we make sure that nothing is time critical as all of the week's news is published to you at the end of each week via email in our bulletin.
2 Year Group Noticeboard, this is where you will find information that is relevant to your child's year group. This is updated frequently by class teachers.
3. Direct email, we use this if we need to communicate something to just you, for instance if it is about your child's class or your child, or a reply to an email you have sent us.
We know different people like to receive information in different ways, so our other methods of communication are a copy of what gets published in Latest News.
Any general questions about school routines or events, for teachers or the admin team or any other member of staff should be directed to the admin email address so that we can quickly direct it to where it needs to go admin@fielding.ealing.sch.uk.
There is a huge amount of information on our website. Which at times probably feels overwhelming, especially when trying to find information quickly. I have put together a short FAQ document with some of the most common questions we are asked, along with a direct link to the relevant page on our website:
Our communication charter is quite old! If you would like to help is develop this further, please send me an email at admin@fielding.ealing.sch.uk
This year we had a huge response rate with 480 families families responding, representing 613 pupils.
We are delighted that our main strengths have been positively recognised by parents. The Governing Body and school leaders will begin to consider the areas for improvement over the next few months. We also recognise that some parents have highlighted other individual strengths and areas for development. Your comments will be shared in full with the Governing Board. For now I have provided a summary of your responses.

The Prime Minister announced plans for living with COVID-19 last night. The government also published guidance for schools. Key points for our school:
The government continues to highlight the importance of high attendance at school. We will continue to write to parents if attendance falls below 95% for any reason. If we are worried about a pupil's attendance at school, we will work with families, including involving support from professionals beyond the school, until attendance improves.
In school, we will continue to reduce the risk of infection transmission by:
National tests for pupils at the end of year 2 and 6 will take place, as planned.
Shortly, we will set out our plans to phase out our remaining control measures in school, returning to pre-COVID arrangements and organisation. This will include relaxing the requirement for adults to wear masks in busy areas, returning to face-to-face assemblies, other large gatherings of pupils indoors and face-to-face parent events.
A degree of caution remains because:
As many parents know, our school is taking part in the COVID-19 Schools Infection Survey 2 (SIS2). This is a national study that aims to help government experts better understand how many school age pupils have developed antibodies against coronavirus. Results are shared with parents, so they will know whether their child has antibodies against the virus.
What does the study involve?
The study involves antibody testing and completing a questionnaire alongside testing. If you would like your child to take part, we would like you to complete a consent form and a short questionnaire about each of your children that you enrol. Once this is completed, your child will be a participant of the study. Unfortunately, we are not able to offer testing to children in pre-school/nursery years, so if you have multiple children in a selected school, please only register those who are in reception or above.
The study is voluntary, you or your child do not have to take part and you can withdraw from any round of testing without giving a reason.
The next round of SIS testing at Fielding starts on 9th -11th March. This involves a simple, saliva swab test. To sign up, follow this link . No need to sign up again if your child has taken part in previous rounds of testing.
The Fielding Girls football team were at Featherstone High School on Wednesday to compete in this years Girls Football Borough Finals. We qualified for the finals by finishing as runners up in the Featherstone competition and were now due to compete against the winners of that competition and the 2 finalists from the Willow Tree partnership competition as well. The winners of the Borough Finals go on to represent the Borough of Ealing at the London Youth Games later in the year so we were very excited to try our hardest to win today.
Our first game was against Dairy Meadow, the team we lost to on penalties in the Featherstone final. We started really well and put Dairy Meadow under a lot of pressure. Eventually, the pressure paid off and Viv stepped up with a goal to put us 1-0 up. In the very short, 8 minute games that was enough to start us off with a win.
Game 2 was against St. Gregory's who played very well. They had us under pressure from the start and we defended well until they eventually found a way through to score and go 1-0 up. We fought to get back in to the game but time ran out and we lost.
Our final game, was against Gifford and we knew we had to win it to have any chance of finishing top. The game was end to end with both teams getting chances to take the lead. It was Gifford who broke through first before they quickly added a 2nd. We kept our heads up and Lily got a goal back for us but again we ran out of time and so lost 2-1.
After all games were played, it was St. Gregory's who were crowned Borough champions and we learned that we had finished in 3rd place today. Although, it was a tough afternoon we were pleased with the fact that we could call ourselves the 3rd best team in Ealing. Well done girls!
