PLAN AHEAD!
In September, we would like to increase the already impressive range of instruments on offer, by adding FRENCH HORN and TROMBONE. (Click on the name of the instrument to hear them played on YouTube.) We also want to increase the number of drum kit spaces.
You can CLICK HERE for a short fact sheet.
If you are interested, and your child will be in KS2 in September, please register your interest by emailing: mmappin.307@lgflmail.org Your email is NOT an application for a place, but merely will give me an indication of how many people might be interested.
It is with great sadness to announce that Mrs Teresa Hayes - a dear friend and once childminder to numerous families at Fielding School has died very suddenly following a short illness.
Teresa (age 66) of Portuguese nationality and formerly of Cawdor Crescent; passed away from advanced stage cancer on Saturday 17th March 2018 surrounded by her family.
She leaves her husband of 40 years - Jim, and their son James. Her passing has been such a shock to all who knew and loved her.
Teresa has looked after so many children from Fielding over a span of over 20 years until October 2014 when she and her husband retired to Kent.
In addition to the preschool children who were with Teresa, she ferried countless children over the years to and from Fielding in the mornings and after school and back for tea and will always be remembered for her loving dedication to those in her care; and not least for the wonderful meals she provided for our children. No parent could want for better care.
She was the most loving and caring individual who was always in demand as a mature, experienced professional; but it's fair to say that Teresa was more like a Grandmother to all her charges and their families, and will be dearly missed. Teresa was the 'Pied Piper of Northfields' because you would always see a trail of children by her side and given the span of Teresa's working years, many of her charges are now in secondary school and beyond, but a number are still at Fielding, or have older siblings in secondary school.
We are thankful that Teresa has graced our lives as she has played a significant role in shaping our children. She will be remembered with deep affection having served this Northfields community and so many Fielding School families.
Teresa's funeral took place on Tuesday 27th March in Bexleyheath, Kent. A memorial and donation page has been set up in her memory and will remain open for a couple of weeks for anyone who would like to add their memories www.funeralzone.co.uk/obituaries/44236. Additionally, a mass will be said in memory of Teresa at Sts. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church, Camborne Avenue, Northfields on Sunday 13th May at 6.30pm. All are welcome.
Thank you from Teresa's friends and families of Northfields

Plans to transform the outdoor space for Reception pupils are being drawn up by specialist contractors. The Governing Body has approved a significant spend on the playground space to improve learning facilities for Reception pupils as soon as possible.
The existing playground space will be converted into a series of zones, underpinned by the requirements of the Early Years curriculum, where pupils can take risks through play in a controlled way. Our brief to contractors, who will design and build the outdoor space, includes providing climbing opportunities; large sandpit; running stream and associated learning with water; wooden 'village'; bike/scooter track; mini-'Gaga' pit; mud kitchen and restaurant; construction play area; planting and growing; reading and quiet zones.
We originally intended Nursery and Reception pupils to share the outdoor learning space between Nursery and Reception. However, the unanticipated opportunity to expand our Nursery through a time-limited government grant has resulted in more Nursery pupils in a smaller outdoor space, forcing us to rethink our plans.
We would like current Reception age pupils to benefit from the improvements and have at least a few weeks using a new outdoor space. However, this will involve some disruption to enable works to take place during term-time. Alternatively, we can plan works to take place during the summer holiday break without any disruption but current Reception pupils will miss out. If parents have any views about the scheduling of works, please share these with Mr Webb or me.
The main, 'middle' playground will be resurfaced with asphalt during the Easter school holiday break. This is the final stage of planned refurbishment and improvement works to this part of the playground. Works include repairing pot-holes, adjusting height levels, improving drainage and replacing paving slabs.
Works start on Good Friday and are anticipated to be completed ready for the start of the summer term.
Pupils attending holiday childcare club will have access to other playground facilities during the works.
The Governing Body has funded these works using the school's capital grant from the government and windfall rebate from the Ealing Schools Catering Consortium.
First of all a huge well done and thank you to everybody who was involved in our Sport Relief challenge last week. We set ourselves the target of running 874 miles as a school in order to complete the distance of Land's End to John o' Groats. We thought this would be a mammoth task but due to the tremendous effort from the Fielding School community we absolutely demolished our target! Between the first lap at 8.00am and the final lap at 4.00pm we had been up and down the country THREE TIMES and then some for a total of 14,582 laps or 2,916 miles!! As you already know Mr Thomas and Mr Winn were running and walking laps for that entire time and had set themselves a target of completing 26 miles (130 laps) by the end of the day. However, everybody else's massive effort inspired them to smash their targets too. Mr Thomas finished the day on 158 laps which was around 33 miles and Mr Winn finished the day on 176 laps which was around 36 miles! One more person who deserves a huge thanks for everything that she done on the day is Mrs Hodge. Mrs Hodge organised absolutely everything on the day and without her hard work we wouldn't have come close to raising all this money, so a MASSIVE THANK YOU must go to her!
We are extremely proud of every single person who took part on Friday and because of all of your hard work we have currently raised....
£2470.35
We set ourselves a fundraising target of £2500 before we started so are currently just short of that target. However, we are still hoping that because we smashed our miles target we can also smash our fundraising target!
So if you haven't donated yet and would like to please follow the link below. Also if you have already donated but want to donate again please feel free!
Once again, thank you to each and every one of you! You should all be very proud of all of your excellent work in raising money for the great cause that is Sport Relief. Check out some of the fantastic photos below to see how good a day we all had!

PTFA fully funds £21,000 allotment
Contractors have started work today to build our new allotment. The works are anticipated to take up to two weeks. Contributions from parents and children by attending all of our fundraising events and the hard work of volunteers and our PTFA committee has fully funded this project.
The scope of works involves building 6 vegetable growing beds and separate polytunnel, positioned on gravel surface to enable year round use and access. A storage shed and outdoor teaching shelter with sedum roof will be located at the edge of the existing playground, near the main school building. At the far end of the allotment, a small fruit orchard will be created where a few chickens will also roam. The allotment will be surrounded by a picket fence and soft boundary hedgerow.
We feel it is important that we educate our children around the benefits of eating a healthy balanced diet along with developing their knowledge around sustainability.
Our aim is that pupils develop an understanding of the journey of food from planting to cooking and then eating. In the summer term we will be offering the pupils lessons in the allotments which will run alongside cooking sessions with the aim to eventually use produce from our own garden. Our four school chickens Rosa, Victoria, Elizabeth and Florence who are currently being reared in our Reception classes are also excited to move into their new home in the allotments after Easter.
We will shortly recruit a teaching assistant gardener to work with pupils to plant, grow, maintain and harvest our crops. We are planning that every class from Year 1 to Year 6 will have a half-day session each half-term working on the allotment and cooking. The teaching assistant gardener will teach half the class; while each class teacher works with the other half, cooking in the School House kitchen.
After-school gardening and cookery clubs will continue and be available to further enrich children's experience.
A huge thank you to the PTFA for funding this project. The support from the PTFA means that we can continue to offer our children these exciting opportunities. The PTFA have many upcoming events planned such as the Comedy Night, Schools Out night at Charlotte’s Place, Tiddler's Disco and the Summer Garden Party and know they welcome your continued support.

Today we took our Year 5 and 6 Tennis team to Will to Win at Lammas Park for this years Featherstone tournament. The team consisted of Serafina, Izzy and Jack from Year 5 and 6 and also Jake who was promoted from the Year 4 squad after being rated too high to compete in his own age group.
All four of our tennis players were in excellent form as they played their way to the top of the table and gold medals! Well done guys for an excellent afternoon of tennis. Check out the PE page to find out how we got on in each match.
