  • PTFA Simple ways to raise money for school

    Wed 30 Sep 2020

The current situation with the pandemic leaves us parents and PTFA with limited options for school fundraising events, so we would like to share simple ways you can raise money for school, simply by shopping online or checking with your company for employee contribution schemes.

    Sign up to:

    1. Amazon Smile
    2. Give as you live (Gayl)
    3. Employee Match funding or Payroll giving

    1. Amazon Smile

If you shop with Amazon please register and use AmazonSmile selecting your charity as "Fielding Primary School Parent Teacher And Friends Association".

Amazon donates a percentage to Fielding PTFA, at no cost to you. It's easy to set up and takes 5 mins. AmazonSmile is available on most browsers and in the Amazon Shopping App to all AmazonSmile customers using supported Android devices.

We have positive feedback from parents that it works well and over £300 has been raised for school funds.

To set it up, use these simple instructions:

    1. Visit smile.amazon.co.uk
    2. Sign in to your Amazon account
    3. Choose our charity "Fielding Primary School Parent Teacher And Friends Association". https://smile.amazon.co.uk/ch/1036586-0
    4. Start shopping!
    5. Add a bookmark for smile.amazon.co.uk to make it even easier to return and start your shopping at AmazonSmile

To set up Amazon Shopping app:

    1. Make sure you're signed up for AmazonSmile (as shown above)
    2. Download or update to the latest version of the Amazon Shopping app for iOS or Android
    3. Open the app and find “Settings” in the main menu (☰)
    4. Tap on “AmazonSmile” and follow the on-screen instructions to turn on AmazonSmile in the app.

    2. Give As You Live (GAYL)

Raise money from your purchases online by using Give As You Live (GAYL) with companies like John Lewis, Boots, Tesco, Sainsbury participating. It is a fuss free and totally FREE way of raising funds for the school by doing your online shopping.

Go to https://www.giveasyoulive.com/ and create an account selecting Fielding Primary School PTFA as your charity. Download the Donation reminder for your desktop or laptop which reminds you to use GAYL while shopping online or on your tablet or smartphone, download the app. One parent has raised £50 from just running it on their laptop this year.

    3. Employee Match funding or Payroll giving

Get in touch with your employee about payroll giving or match funding schemes they run where the employer makes contributions. This has already been set up on platforms such as Brevity (which companies like Samsumg, AstraZeneca, SAP, Microsoft Apple use) or Charities Trust.

Please check with your employer if they have a scheme in place. GSK for example donated £1500 to us last year through parents who work at the company. If you need further help to apply for the funding please get in touch fieldingptfa@gmail.com.

  • PTFA Thanks for new reading books

Wed 30 Sep 2020 Peter Dunmall

Fundraising by parents last year has resulted in new reading books for classes. £5,000 has been spent on new books. Some are for our youngest readers while others are at a higher book band or lexile rating to challenge our most able readers. Thanks to every parent who helped raise this money for school and our pupils.

Our stock of recommended reading books in classrooms has fallen. Have you got any of our books at home? If you find any, please return to school so that other pupils can enjoy our books.

  • We need your help, impact of lockdown on online safety

Wed 23 Sep 2020 Clare Haines

Online safety top concern as pupils return to school

Online safety is emerging as a concern in the new school year – nationally research shows over half of teachers believe it is now more likely their pupils will experience issues as a result of lockdown. We are also noticing a change in pupil’s behaviour and interactions online.

    Parents we need your help,

The increased use of devices and smartphones during school closure has led to concerns around pupil’s digital worlds. We know that some pupils, particularly in the older year groups have had more access than ever before to social media, online chat and instant messaging.  While it is important that pupils have access to devices to support remote education, we need to make sure they are doing this safely and they follow our core values in their online interactions just as they would do in a face to face interaction.

We will be focusing on online safety this term, please help us by also having a conversation with your child about their online behaviour. Follow our suggestions:

    • no devices in the bedroom
    • set  device screen time limits & to turn off at a reasonable time each evening - you can do this through
    • talk to your children about the games and apps they are using, and who they are talking to
    • talk to your children about what to do if they are worried about something they see or someone says to them online
    • remind your children about their 'digital footprint'

    Internet Matters 'switched on campaign'

This campaign aims to remind parents to “stay switched on” around issues their children might be facing, including cyberbullying, screentime, peer pressure, online grooming and viewing inappropriate content. They have produced some useful guidance aimed at children of different ages. These leaflets are useful starting points for a conversation with your child.

  • Your child's progress, live on MCAS for Years 1 -6

Tue 22 Sep 2020 Clare Haines

Your child's assessment date is now on MCAS.

Your child’s class teacher has been busy assessing your child’s learning during the first few weeks of term. This is to help us carefully plan our teaching so that any gaps that may have arisen due to school closure can be closed. In Years 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 children took  part in the NFER reading and mathematics assessments. Leaders are putting the finishing touches to our catch-up plans, we will communicate these with you next week.

Find out more here about how we assess your children’s learning and share their progress with you:

Teachers in all year groups also looked at  children’s writing ability and reading fluency (this includes phonics for children in Reception, Year 1 and 2).

Your child’s class teacher has upload the outcomes of their assessments to My Child at School (MCAS).

Find out how to access your child’s assessments here:

If you haven't done so already, remember to book your virtual parents consultation meeting, on the 5th or 12th of October to discuss your child's learning and next steps. Parent consultations will take place on Microsoft Teams. You can book your appointment now on MCAS.

For parents who have children in Reception and Nursery, your child's teachers are still getting to know your child and what they can and can't do.  We will let you know when this will be available to view on MCAS

  • Termly Safeguarding assembly

    Mon 21 Sep 2020

Today we will be talking to the children about keeping safe. Here is a link to our assembly that will be shared with children in Years 1-6.

  • Overnight trips for Years 3,4,5 & 6

Fri 18 Sep 2020 Peter Dunmall

Current government guidance to schools prevents overnight, residential school trips as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

All of our residential trips for Years 3,4,5 & 6 take place during the summer term with planning and preparation from the year before. We want to take a cautious but optimistic approach:

    • Year 3, Camp-out on the field and bush-craft activities. We have made a provisional booking for 10-11 June 2021. Please hold the date. We will ask you for a deposit and final payment if we confirm the booking. Estimated cost, £49. Perhaps start setting aside some money now.
    • Year 4, Museum of London sleep-over. Museums have suspended their programmes. No known dates. Estimated cost, £84. Perhaps start setting aside some money now. We will contact you when we know more.
    • Year 5, Action and adventure weekend at PGL Little Canada, Isle of Wight. We have made a provisional booking for 14-17 May 2021. Please hold the date. We will ask you for a deposit and final payment if we confirm the booking. Estimated cost, £265 per pupil. Perhaps start setting aside some money now.
    • Year 6, France. We think international travel is unlikely and poses too much uncertainty for schools. Our contingency plan is to offer Year 6 pupils their own weekend of action and adventure at PGL Little Canada, Isle of Wight (to replace the visit they missed at the end of Year 5). We have made a provisional booking for 2-5 July 2021. Please hold the date. We will ask you for a deposit and final payment if we confirm the booking. Estimated cost, £265 per pupil. Perhaps start setting aside some money now.

Our over-arching aims include offering our pupils as much of our curriculum offer as we possibly can. Even if the government lifts restrictions, we will not offer these trips unless we are satisfied that we can manage and control risks associated with coronavirus. We will write to you again as and when we know more.

We are unlikely to offer or ask you for staggered payments or a payment plan for these trips. Please make your own budget plans and be ready to make deposit and final payments to us, even at short-notice, so that your child does not miss out. Estimated costs may change if our providers increase their charges.

  • Parents do the right thing

Thu 17 Sep 2020 Peter Dunmall

Parents are doing the right thing to protect our class 'bubbles'. Children are being kept at home when:

    • they show any coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms. They stay at home for at least 10 days, or until a test result is negative;
    • anyone in your household shows coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms). Pupils stay at home for at least 14 days; or
    • they have been asked to self-isolate by NHS test and trace because they have been in contact with someone who has the virus. They stay at home for at least 14 days.

This is helping to keep our pupils and class 'bubbles' safe. Fielding has no confirmed cases for pupils or members of staff. We continue to stay safe and protect our bubbles. We remain fully open, for now. Check Ealing's guide for parents in our COVID pages for parents:

    This week:

    • we've improved our organisation when you tell us that your child is self-isolating;
    • we know that getting a coronavirus test is proving difficult. Parents who have been successful recommend:
    • pupils are even better at following our rules and routines to keep them safe, especially in Years 3-6;
    • teachers have started to set work using Microsoft Teams for children learning at home and keeping in touch with them by audio and video calls on Teams;
    • teachers have found out the things that pupils can and cannot remember in reading, writing and maths. This will help us identify gaps and plan our catch-up programme.
    • Year 6 Star Leaders wrote and filmed superb video clips about our school for prospective parents who want to join Reception and Nursery in September 2021 (Our School, Admissions)
    • class sharing assemblies continue in Year 6. We are trying different uses of Microsoft Teams to give you and children the best experience. Class 6P's assembly is broadcast as a 'live' event today. Watch for posts on Teams using your child's account.
    • behind the scenes, leaders have been looking at the best ways to spend our share of the government's 'catch-up' funding.

As soon as a child is forced to self-isolate or we close a class 'bubble' for 14 days, learning and contact with the class teacher will switch to Microsoft Teams. Are you ready to use Microsoft Teams at home?
