  • Gold for Fielding

    Tue 19 Jul 2016

    Healthy Schools Gold Award

Fielding becomes one of only 5 other schools in Ealing and just 61 schools for the whole of London to be awarded the Gold Healthy Schools Award.

The Award reflects all of our work in two priority areas:

    • improving pupils' emotional health, well-being and behaviour
    • increasing physical activity through greater uptake of specialist sports clubs.

In school, pupils have benefited from a consistent, whole school behaviour policy, systems and routines, underpinned by our Values-based ethos. Implementation of the MindUp curriculum and daily 'brain breaks' has enabled pupils to understand more about themselves through neuroscience and mindfulness techniques.

Sports Captains have promoted physical activity during lunchtimes with their constellation teams along with organised games provided by professional sports coaches from the QPR Community Trust.  An improved menu of before and after school clubs has resulted in more pupils getting involved in sport through opportunities at school.

    Other school achievements:

  • Excellent school results

    Tue 19 Jul 2016

Reception to Year 6 high academic achievement

Pupils in every age group have achieved highly this school year, rising to the challenge of higher expectations in each age group as a result of very effective teaching, their own determination and support from families at home.

Reception, end of Early Years Foundation Stage

    • 84% of children achieved a 'good level of development', showing their readiness to start learning in Year 1.
    • 3 year increasing trend from just in-line with the national average in 2014 as a result of better assessment and learning opportunities.
    • 98% of children making typical or better progress with up to 45% of children making better than expected progress reflecting our high expectations and sufficient challenge for all pupils.

    Year 1, phonics screening check

    • 98% of pupils met the standard for phonics
    • 4 year increasing trend from below the national average in 2013 as a result of improved and consistent phonics teaching from Nursery and Reception.
    • Every disadvantaged pupil met the expected standard, giving these pupils the best possible start to reading for Year 2.
    • 90% or more of pupils making expected progress in reading, writing and maths from the end of Reception, with around half working at the highest level (greater depth).

    Year 2, end of Key-Stage 1

    • High reading and maths outcomes, likely to be above the national average, lower in writing because pupils had low starting points from the end of Reception.
    • High achievement for disadvantaged pupils who met national standards and made rapid progress.
    • Rapid progress in writing to catch-up from low starting points at the end of Reception.

    Years 3, 4, 5

    • Very high proportion of pupils working at age-related expectations in reading, writing and maths
    • Vast majority of pupils making expected progress, including sufficient challenge for most-able pupils who are generally working at greater depth.
    • Sustained progress for disadvantaged pupils who mostly make the same progress as other pupils in school.

    Year 6, end of Key-Stage 2

    • Above the national average in all areas especially maths. Maths has become our strongest subject area, followed by writing, grammar and then reading.
    • Progress measures are due to be released by the government in September.

  • Hercules win Sports Constellation Cup

Mon 18 Jul 2016 Mr Thomas

The year has finally come to and end and it has ended with a fantastic week of sports! Every single child from Nursery to Year 6 participated in Sports Day and by the looks on their faces it seemed as though every one of them enjoyed it!

    Cygnus athletics champions

This week, children from Year 1 to Year 6 competed in the final Constellation Cup competition at their Sports Day and it was clear from the effort they put in that they all wanted to win. Unfortunately there could only be one winner and that was Cygnus! After adding up all of the points from the week it was Cygnus who claimed the athletics trophy and the right to hold it aloft in front of the rest of the school.

    Hercules Constellation Cup champions

However, we were all also biting our nails waiting to find out who won the Constellation Cup. In order to win the Constellation Cup you must have been consistent across every competition since September and accumulated the most amount of points. Unbelievably, after 6 whole school competitions the winning constellation won by just 4 points!

A huge, and very well deserved congratulations to Hercules for being that constellation and winning the first ever Fielding PE and Sport Constellation Cup!

To read more about sports day and to check out some of our great pictures taken by our Year 6 helpers get over to the PE Page now.

    http://www.fieldingprimary.com/sports-day/

Unfortunately, we had some camera problems on Friday for Year 5 and 6 Sports Day so if any parents have any pictures of the children that they would like to see published on the school website please send them in!

    Feedback welcome

One last thing...we are very happy with all of the children's effort and achievements this year across PE and Sport but we still want to see that improve further. In order for that to happen we need to make sure we are continuing to develop ourselves. With that in mind please feel free to send in any feedback you have with regards to PE and Sport this year at Fielding. This could be anything from the beginning of the year right up to Sports Day.

We would love to hear what you think we have done well and also where you think we could improve so don't be shy!

That is it from the PE team for this year. We hope everybody has a lovely summer break and we look forward to seeing everybody fresh for the new year.

    Mr Thomas and Mr Winn

  • Year 1: Writing instructions

    Tue 12 Jul 2016 K.McGarrigle

This week, Year One children have been learning how to write instructional texts. We have read and discussed the book Growing Vegetable Soup by Lois Ehlert. We looked at the features of instructional writing. The children learned about imperative (bossy) verbs and how these are used in writing instructions. The children had a selection of imperative verbs and they mimed the action to their partner. “I had fun demonstrating the verbs chop, hop, laugh” said Luke, 1S, enthusiastically. The children will be applying their knowledge next week when they write their own set of instructions.

  • Booking for Childcare and Specialist clubs for September

    Mon 11 Jul 2016

Have you visited our specialist club page recently? Two weeks ago we published our annual overview of specialist clubs for the next school year. Since then there have been some minor amendments and additions to our schedule. We encourage all parents to take a look at the huge variety of activies we have on offer.

Booking for childcare and specialist clubs will go live on Laser on Tuesday 19th July at 8pm. As booking opens Laser will be watching the system to ensure that the launch runs smoothly. If the system encounters any issues you will be notified of this. Click here for Laser helpful hints.

    Specialist clubs

The specialist club booking is valid for one full term, unless stated on the schedule. As places can’t be cancelled once booked we recommend that parents and children visit our Fresher’s fair, held on Friday 15th July, 3.45-5.30pm. This will give you a chance to speak to our providers, see demonstrations and join in with some taster sessions. We also have descriptions of each activity on the specialist club webpage. Specialist clubs must be paid for in full before the term begins. Non-payment will mean your child is taken off the register, but you will still need to settle the fees incurred. Spaces are limited so we advise parents to book early, if needed Laser will hold a waiting list, you will be notified when a place becomes available. We do run some invitation clubs-invites will be sent out prior to booking. For information about Rugby trials please see the article published last week.

    Childcare

If you’re currently booked into the childcare, the place will automatically roll over for September. If you need to cancel any sessions you will be able to remove these when the booking goes live. We recommend you book specialist clubs first before adjusting childcare. We also offer unlimited availability, so you can guarantee the places you need. 50% of your childcare fees must be paid by the start of the new term. The cashbook shows the fees for the full term, however you are only required to pay 50% by 7th September, the remaining 50% must be paid by 24th October.
