  • Y4 Girls Football team 1st Place in the Featherstone High School Football Tournament!!!

Fri 30 Sep 2022 Natasha Pasha

The team arrived early and got straight into a warm-up. All the players were brand new, therefore decisions needed to be made about what positions were going to be played. Our first match was rather tense as Allenby Primary School were pressing towards our goal whilst we were trying to strike on the counter-attack.  At full time the score was 0-0 which could only mean one thing penalties. Congratulations to Coco in 4P who scored the winning goal in the penalty shootout. Our second game was against Dairy Meadow Primary which was a great game as Qamara 4S scored the first goal of the tournament resulting in Fielding's first win 1-0. Our third match was against Selbourne Primary where we once again managed to secure another 1-0 win. Thank you to Miral in 4H who scored a cracking goal. Our last match was against St Mark’s. There was tension in the air, but the girls were reminded we need to focus on a positive mindset and not let fear creep in.  Consequently, Fielding won the match 1-0 against St Mark's with Qamara in 4S pelting a great shot at the back of the net.

Due to great teamwork and a positive mindset, Fielding managed to secure their place in the semi-finals against Oaklands. The girls at this point were confident and determined to win thus winning 3-0. Thanks to Clara in 4H our goalkeeper who kept a clean sheet in this match and the player of the tournament Qamara in 4S who scored a further 2 goals in this match. Also, to Coco in 4P who secured the lead with the final goal in this match.

Now we had made it into the final with our local rival Little Ealing. They were in a different group to us so we had no idea how they played. Tactics were discussed on how we were going to secure the win. First Little Ealing scored the first goal however, the girls were determined to fight back. Just before the final whistle Qamara in 4S scored the equaliser. It was now penalty time and went to sudden death. Daisy 4P, Miral 4H, and Qamara 4S were selected as the penalty takers. Daisy was first up and scored the first goal which put us in a great position. Coco in 4P was asked to step in as a goalkeeper and made a great save. Little Ealing was now under pressure to score their second penalty taker hit the ball over the crossbar. Next up was Miral in 4H if she scored, we would be winners of the tournament. With a powerful shot, there was no chance for Little Ealing’s Goalkeeper to save it.

What an amazing result for our first-ever football competition against 10 local schools.

1st Place – which means we have been selected to represent Ealing in the Borough finals.

Thank you to Miral 4H, Clara 4H, Qamara 4S, Isobel 4S, Lani 4F, Amelia 4F, Molly 4P, Coco 4P, Daisy 4P, Lois 4P for representing the school with such class!

Finally, I’d like to say that I am absolutely delighted that our Girls' team showed the values of resilience, respect, empathy, and reflection whilst playing Football. Therefore, showing school values are embedded not just in school. It was great to see despite an unnerving start the girls remained positive.

  • Reading expectations for pupils and parents and this week's Reading Celebrations

Thu 29 Sep 2022 Philippa Whaley

Reading daily improves vocabulary and language skills.

Children learn new words as they read. Subconsciously, they absorb information on how to structure sentences and how to use words and other language features effectively in their writing and speaking.

All pupils who attend Fielding are expected to read for 20 minutes at home every day. This may be to a parent, other adult or independently, if able. Teachers will be checking pupils' reading records every day and signing them weekly to ensure that this is happening and will be following up with pupils and parents when it is not.

As well as signing their reading record every day and writing the name of the book and pages they've read, pupils and parents are encouraged to record new words they come across and discuss the meanings of these together. Please see the picture below for clear instructions on how to use the reading record daily.

It has been a pleasure to visit classes this week and see so many pupils reading books for pleasure from the recommended reading lists and completing reading response activities in their new pink book to achieve bronze and even silver reading certificates already! The options for these activities can be found in your child's reading record or on their year group noticeboard on the website. We look forward to celebrating further reading achievements next week!

  • Year 5 & 6 Boys Football team 2nd and 4th place in Featherstone Partnership Tournament

Thu 29 Sep 2022 Natasha Pasha

We entered two teams into this competition.

Our performance squad got off to a good start by winning their first game of the tournament by beating St Marks B 3-1. Goals were scored by Noah, Theo and Sev. The team had a clean sheet for their second match against Selbourne B thanks to Jordi the goalkeeper. Due to excellent teamwork in defence and solid passes in attack, they won 2-0. Goals were scored by Reuben in a tense penalty shootout and Tem’s goal was assisted by Sev. Our third match was against Oaklands A where we played defensively due to the attacking pressure. Eventually, the team spotted an opportunity and Tem scored a goal making it 1-0 to Fielding. In our last match, the team became complacent at the very end which allowed Little Ealing to achieve a last-minute goal resulting in a 1-1 draw.

Our development squads had an amazing start to the tournament as they won 2-1 against Oaklands B 2-1. Yaqoob assisted Zain to score, and Arthur assisted Will. In the second match, we played Selbourne A, who were pressing throughout the match, putting pressure on our defence who worked well together.  Within the last minute of the match Ahmed scored a great goal off a rebound which meant we won 1-0. Charlie our goalkeeper made some excellent saves which allows us to keep a clean sheet in this game.  Next, we played St Marks A, where we lost 1-0 unfortunately but the team put up a great fight and didn’t give up.  Our last match was Mount Carmel where both teams struggled to find the back of the net resulting in a 1-1 draw.

Due to such a high standard of play by both Fielding teams they ended up playing each other in an intense semi-final which even in extra time was 0-0. This meant only one thing penalties. Both coaches had to decide who the penalty takers were going to be. The Fielding performance squad just managed to take the lead. For us as a school, it was a win-win as we knew ultimately it would be a Fielding team that was going to be in the final.

Unfortunately, the Fielding performance squad lost in the final against St Marks A 1-0.

What an amazing result for our first-ever football competition against 10 local schools.

    2nd place – performance squad

    Thank you to  Theo 6S, Reuben 6S, Ethan 6S, Jordi 6S, Gioele 6F, Noah 6F, Ishaaq 6F, Tem 5F,  and Sev 5S

  • PTFA - Your presence is needed (Tues 4 October 8.30pm)

    Thu 29 Sep 2022 PTFA

The PTFA can only function when parents get involved and want the best for the school. We know that parents love the community feel at Fielding and so this is the first time since 2019 that a PTFA meeting will be held in person with wine and soft drinks - generously donated by Patri, Northfields Avenue.

We have lost many years of face-to-face interaction due to Covid-19 and we have had a new influx of families who may not have met.  So our AGM on Tuesday 4 October at 8.30pm helps build on the parent community at Fielding.

Please come along to find out what PTFA activities are planned for the year ahead and where you can get involved.  Your support is vital to helping us raise the money needed to cover the extracurricular activities like the Kitchen Garden lessons, Forest School and Drumming lessons amongst many others.

    Thu 29 Sep 2022 PTFA

Well done to all Fielding pupils that took part in the Ealing Mini Mile on Saturday 23 September. Seven classes decided that they wanted to raise money for Fielding Primary School PTFA and we are pleased to say that over £800 was raised as a result. Special thanks goes to 2F, 2H, 3H, 3S, 4S, 4H and 5S.

For those that didn't attend, it was a wonderful atmosphere and a great sense of community. Overall feedback has been that many pupils beat previous records - which is amazing to hear!  Tickets sell out fast for this event, so if you are interested in your children taking part in 2023 look out for the launch in Feb 2023 - we'll try to remind everyone.
