Fielding
Primary School and Nursery
Keep up to date with all the news happening in the school at the moment. Articles are added during the week. Parents are encouraged to check regularly. Our weekly bulletin, emailed directly to parents, summarises content for the week.
Each year, Fielding pupils choose 3 charities to support which include: one local charity, one national and one global. This year the pupils have chosen to support The Ukrainian Red Cross, Cancer Research UK and Ealing Hospital.
This term, we are supporting The Ukrainian Red Cross.
On the 21st November, we will be holding a fundraising event. We are asking you to donate any spare change that you have at home to create a large coin cross in the middle playground. The cross will be drawn out for you to add coins with your children between 8:30 and 9:00am. This will be between Mr Osborne’s music room and the Year 4 doors.
Outdoor sports clubs return at the start of Autumn 2.
We look forward to the return of QPR and Trailfinders all clubs will take place on the MUGA. No disruption to play with the outstanding, all weather, floodlit facility.
Please check your child's booking in MCAS, make sure payment has been made. Unpaid bookings may be cancelled and released to those on the waiting list.
In addition remember to book childcare before or after for complete wraparound care.
Pupils at Fielding continue to enjoy reading books for pleasure from their year group recommended reading lists. Many have been completing reading response activities in their new pink book to achieve bronze, silver and even Gold reading certificates already! The options for these activities can be found in your child's reading record or on their year group noticeboard on the website. We look forward to celebrating further reading achievements next half-term!
Reading daily improves vocabulary and language skills.
Children learn new words as they read. Subconsciously, they absorb information on how to structure sentences and how to use words and other language features effectively in their writing and speaking.
All pupils who attend Fielding are expected to read for 20 minutes at home every day. This may be to a parent, other adult or independently, if able. Teachers will be checking pupils' reading records every day and signing them weekly to ensure that this is happening and will be following up with pupils and parents when it is not.
As well as signing their reading record every day and writing the name of the book and pages they've read, pupils and parents are encouraged to record new words they come across and discuss the meanings of these together. Please see the picture below for clear instructions on how to use the reading record daily.
Fielding entered two teams in the Featherstone Partnership Hi5 Netball tournament. There was a performance squad and a development squad. In this tournament, positions were selected tactically because in every game the children needed to change positions which meant we couldn’t select the best shooters to shoot everyone in the team had to be flexible and play every position. Both squads before playing in today’s tournament had only had one training session.
The performance squad played four matches during the group stages:

Now they were due to play Little Ealing Sliver who won 2-1.
Congratulations to the Performance Squad who came 4th Place in your group.

The PTFA are pleased to announce that Fielding Eggs are back on sale for next half term (Nov - Dec). Two families each week will be able to secure 50% of the eggs that are laid that week. At the moment this is between 20-24 eggs as one of the chickens is moulting.
If you would like to be one of those families, click on the link and select the week. https://www.tickettailor.com/events/fieldingptfa/764678#
Over 200 children attended the PTFA's Movie Afternoon on Sunday (16 Oct) which saw Encanto Sing-a-Long and Lightyear streamed on the big screens. The PTFA raised over £1,000 in ticket sales alongside revenue coming from extra drinks and snacks purchased during the event. Thank you to Year 1 for offering to organise this event alongside any other parents involved on the day.
As a reminder, each Year Group should organise at least one school-wide event per year. Year 3 will be running a Disco in the New Year, so get your thinking caps on now. You can discuss any ideas with the events team on FieldingPTFAevents@gmail.com. The next PTFA meeting is scheduled for Monday 7 November at 10am and 8.30pm.
ISS have been working hard to improve their recipes and menus. They have increased fibre, added more plant based protein and reduced saturated fat.
This menu will run from 31st October 2022 to 30th March
...it will not only benefit you but help us to finish our sensory garden for the new ARP children starting in January (and be the firs to see it!).
Being in nature has been proven to benefit well being which will be a good start to your day. Rather than going to grab a coffee after drop off come along to the garden. You don't need to have green fingers as guidance will be provided along with tea/coffees and biscuits. Chat with friends or make new friends whilst weeding, planting and sowing seeds.
Places are limited due to the garden's space but there are 2 dates that you can sign up for Friday 11th and 18th November. The gardener will be there from 8.30am until 12pm on both days so come for an hour or stay for the morning. I'm sure you'll leave refreshed.
Please email admin@fielding,ealing.sch.uk to secure your place (for the attention of Megan the gardener and Alison Trott).
The Christmas Fair is set to take place on Saturday 3 December and whilst it might seem like a long way off, planning needs to start now.
The PTFA needs a team of about 8-10 parents to help progress activities over the next six weeks and although we have a few already signed up, we could do with a few extra parents. Jobs include designing the posters, looking for sponsorship, agreement and allocation of stalls, arranging donations from local retailers and stock take of current suppliers amongst others. If you would like to volunteer then we'll be hosting a kick off call next week (19 October). Email Nolan on fieldingPTFA@gmail.com
Today Fielding took 1 team to a Tenpin Bowling Competition at Tenpin in Acton. The Competition was hosted by the Featherstone Sports Partnership.
We had 6 bowlers who were each trying to bowl as many strikes and spares as they possibly could to be classed the Hotshot of the competition. After everyone had completed their game of bowling, scores were added up.
We were very pleased to find out we came 4th place out of 11 schools and found out we were 1 point away from Bronze!
A huge well done to all our bowlers today, you were all fantastic!
A special thanks to our team: Anas (6H), Layla (6S), Finlay (5H), Miriam (5S), Basma (4H) and Shems (4H)
