Fielding
Primary School and Nursery
Keep up to date with all the news happening in the school at the moment. Articles are added during the week. Parents are encouraged to check regularly. Our weekly bulletin, emailed directly to parents, summarises content for the week.
We proudly announce the inaugural concert of the Fielding Ensembles (Guitar; Strings; Wind). It takes place at 7pm on Thursday 17th March in the school hall. Admission is free. Biscuits and tea/coffee will be available.
Children who are in the Ensembles will need a permission form. It can be downloaded from the MUSIC PAGE (CLICK HERE) or collected from school Reception. Children will also be given a form at their Ensemble session this week.
News of the fantastic work we our doing around Emotional Health and Well-being, through our Values-based Education ethos, has reached as far as Iceland. We were contacted by members of staff from Álfhólsskóli School who had seen our Values Quality Mark status and wanted to find out more.
Yesterday, six teachers from Álfhólsskóli School spent the morning at Fielding; meeting members of staff, touring the school, visiting lessons and talking with pupils. “We are so impressed with the calm environment of the school and the pupils who showed us around were amazing. We are very inspired and we can’t wait to get back to our school and start Values-based Education.” commented Hreiðar.
“We are very proud of our pupils and the school, we are extremely enthusiastic and committed to giving all pupils the best start in life.” explained Mrs. Tate, Assistant Head.
The children in Early Years were excited today to see our designs for our concrete area in our outside classroom start to come together. Andy from 'The Line King' spent the day painting parking bays, challenge courses and zoning off areas to make the space more engaging for our children. As EYFS practitioners we understand the importance of using or outside space effectively to support the development of children in Nursery and Reception, we are very pleased with the changes and new items that have been added over the last few weeks. I know the children will be eager to put on their coats and wellies tomorrow and go and explore the improved area. We are still waiting for more deliveries that should be arriving any day now – keep your eyes peeled!
All Reception classes have settled in really well after the half term break. We have started our new topic ‘Should Goldilocks say sorry?’ In relation to our topic in English we have begun reading our new curriculum challenge book ‘Martha Doesn’t Say Sorry.’ The children have thoroughly enjoyed looking at this book online, making predictions and discussing different scenarios in which we should say ‘sorry.’ Reception classes have also been very keen to learn through play using their new outdoor equipment. Throughout the week there has been lots of laughter, learning and role-play both indoors and outdoors.
Exciting changes to our Inclusion Drop-In Service
Fielding Primary School runs a monthly Inclusion Drop-In service. This is usually on the first Thursday of each month, term dates permitting, and is held in the School House. The session takes place between 2-3pm and is open to all parents and carers with children at Fielding Primary.
The Drop-Ins provide an opportunity to talk to Mrs Chadwick, SENDCo, and Mrs Reehal, Learning Mentor. Mrs Chadwick, as SENDCo oversees the support provision for children who have special educational needs, to ensure they reach their full potential. Mrs Reehal, as Learning Mentor, offers support and guidance to children who may be experiencing barriers to their learning or are socially excluded.
Parents and Carers are provided with an opportunity to meet and discuss any concerns that they may have in an informal manner.
The Inclusion team are delighted to announce that starting in March, there will also be a specialist joining the Drop-In sessions, focusing on a particular topic.
Each specialist will explain the role they play in supporting and promoting learning, health and well-being and be available to answer any questions.
The Drop-In on Thursday 3rd March will feature special guest speaker Hannah Howell-Day, Speech, Language and Communication Therapist.
Hannah explained her role:
"Did you know that 1/10 children in the UK have some form of Speech, Language or Communication difficulty? This means that they might:
• have difficulties learning words, or putting words into sentences
• have problems understanding what other people are saying to them
• find it hard to make friends and interact socially with people in the right way
• be hard to understand because they can’t say sounds the right way
As a Speech and Language Therapist, I work with so many different types of children; children with Autism, learning difficulties, speech disorder, difficulties understanding others or expressing themselves! I don't just work with people who stammer, despite what the film 'The Kings Speech' might have told you!
Come along and find out more about my job, how I work with your school and your child"
Please see the Inclusion Drop-In calendar for more details of future specialists.
During the last week of the half term, we celebrated the end of the third Creative home learning cycle. A huge thank you to the children for all of your hard work and effort and another big thank you to all the parents and carers that helped with this. This cycle had been changed as a result of feedback gathered with one major change being fewer task options. This resulted in the children being able to dedicate more time on each project which meant we saw work of an even greater quality. It was wonderful to see the care and excitement children have put into their learning. The Creative Home Learning showcases are becoming an event we look forward to as the children love sharing their work and seeing what everyone has produced. We are constantly blown away but how creative children (and their parents) can be when producing a task. Mrs Hodge in Year 4 said “This is some of the best home learning I’ve ever seen, it’s wonderful to see all of their effort. I like this change in fact I love it, I love it, I love it.” Some of these pieces have continued to be displayed around the school and some can be seen in the photos below.
The next round of Creative Home learning starts today-Thursday 25th February. These will once again be posted on year group notice boards.

Year 3 children have begun to explore writing a newspaper article this week in English reporting Oliver Twist’s arrest. The children have had the opportunity to do a ‘cold write’ without any teacher input to see if they can remember how to write a newspaper article from their work in Year 2. Then, reflection skills are used to help children analyse their ‘cold write’ so they can identify next steps in their writing. The children will then use their next steps to create a plan for their first draft based on features of a newspaper article. Miss Oliver stated, “It is clear how much the children are developing their reflection skills and using these to edit and improve their work, adding in new learning.”
