  • Bikeability training starting tomorrow

Mon 22 Feb 2016 Mr Thomas

Cycle training starts Tuesday 23rd February for selected Year 5 children.

This half term a group of 18 Year 5 children will take part in a 5 week cycle training course being funded and run by Ealing council. The Bikeability training course will provide children with a great opportunity to improve their cycling skills and learn how to be safer when riding on the road. Children were chosen by a random ballot on the last day of half term before the break. Children who were selected have been notified and will start their training tomorrow. Please remember to bring your signed consent form with you otherwise you will not be allowed to take part in the training.

We had a huge response from children who wanted to take part so unfortunately lots of people have missed out. If you weren't notified of your place before half term then you have unfortunately missed out this time. Keep your eyes peeled though for the course possibly being run again later in the year.

  • Frosty February Fun!

Fri 12 Feb 2016 Mr. McConnachie

With a compassionate view towards the approaching end of winter, Year 4 has been warming up February by studying to process of melting.  Working scientifically, they have planned and carried out investigations into various states of matter and discovered that butter and chocolate not only taste good, but they can be enjoyed in as a liquid and a solid!

Very good progress is being made by all with both spellings and the new times tables challenge. Exploring the tricky world of grammar through first person narratives as a cat, the children have expressed their fictional imaginations through the moral dilemmas of their frisky felines.

Year 4 team would like to wish everyone a safe and happy half-term holiday!

  • Constellation Netball comes to an exciting end

Thu 11 Feb 2016 Mr Thomas

Constellation wins first trophy of the year

The Constellation Netball tournament came to an end this morning which concluded a fantastic week of netball. Everybody from Year 1 to Year 6 had the chance to contribute to their constellations points tally in the hope that it would be their sports captain lifting the netball trophy aloft. The points have been counted all week and it was Hercules who looked like they were on course to win. Did they manage to hold on or were they caught?

Check out the PE page to find out...

  • Year 1 Trip to London Transport Museum

    Thu 11 Feb 2016

Parent volunteers urgently required for 1H-Monday 29th February

On Monday 29th February classes 1H and 1P will be visiting the London Transport Museum, as an exciting way to start our new topic ‘Where do, and did, the wheels on the bus go?

During the day, the children will have the opportunity to experience one of the museum’s education sessions ‘Platform Promenade’ where role-play and interactive models bring transport and related topics to life. They will also have the chance to visit the ‘hands-on’ galleries where they will be able to explore the various methods of transport used in London from past to present, which will boost their understanding of chronology and historical enquiry.  The children are very excited about the trip but we urgently require three more parent helpers for the day. Please let Miss Whaley know if you are able to accompany members of her class on the day.

  • School closed to pupils - Friday 12th February

    Wed 10 Feb 2016

    Staff training day

Teachers from Fielding and Little Ealing Primary schools continue to work together on our Visible Learning plus programme, funded by Ealing Council.

"We are sharing best practice, learning from one another and finding teaching strategies that have the biggest impact on pupils' learning," explained Laura Stabler, Assistant Head teacher.

Teachers will focus on developing a second round of class-based action research to improve pupils' learning with the guidance and support of expert consultant, Laura Kearney.

At Fielding, progress tests in maths for key-stage 2 pupils and spelling tests for all pupils are helping us to measure the impact of our new teaching strategies.

  • Parent survey

    Wed 10 Feb 2016

Your views needed by Friday 26th February

Over 200 parents, representing 305 pupils, have completed our annual survey so far.  School leaders and the Governing Body welcomes the views of parents so that we can continue to improve.

"We systematically gather information from a wide range of sources during the school year, including looking at children's work in books, talking to pupils about their learning and life in school, observing lessons and analysing pupils' assessment information.  This information is used to judge the impact and quality of our work.  Evaluating and identifying our strengths and weaknesses enables us to celebrate our successes and tackle areas for improvement," explained Peter Dunmall, Head teacher.

Your feedback last year helped influence key improvements:

    • Added French language teaching to our curriculum for all children from Reception to Year 6
    • Increased focus on reading, writing and maths with timetables teaching of basic skills - spelling, mental maths, multiplication tables
    • Improved communication by reducing the use of Parentmail and holding regular 'Focus sessions'
    • Increased the number and flexibility of extra-curricular clubs for all year groups.
    • Moved parent consultation meetings to coincide with assessment cycles so that they are timely and relevant.

Our current annual survey for parents will close on Friday 26th February.  Please check your inbox for our invitation and link to complete the survey.
