    Thu 04 May 2017

Fielding Nursery fully staffed for September 2017

Ahead of the September opening for our new Nursery provision. we have completed our recruitment of all Nursery staff. Our Nursery manager, Tracy Cherry, will be starting with us at the beginning of June. Tracy will be working on planning with the Nursery education team, training for our newest staff members, logistics around payment and invoicing and making final arrangements for September.

As well as the recruitment of the Nursery Manager, we have confirmed that Mr Terry McEvoy, current Nursery Leader, will continue to be our Lead Teacher for Nursery. We are also please to have recruited the following additional staff: two Early Years Practioners, three Teaching Assistants and eight Playworkers. All new staff will be working on a training programme with us throughout the second part of this term.

  • Fielding Nursery is growing and improving

    Thu 04 May 2017

    Additional spaces coming soon

Ahead of our new Nursery provision opening in September 2017, we have started on premises works to improve the facilities in the Nursery, so far this has included reconfiguration of internal space, a staff workroom and office for the Nursery Manager and Lead teacher. During the May half-term break we will be installing bespoke storage throughout the Nursery and updating our current resources and furniture.

Our Nursery places for September were in high demand, the number of places available did not meet the demand of the local parents. We are pleased to  have secured a DfE bid through Ealing Council to extend our Nursery and improve current facilities, this will include a Nursery extension, a group room to be used for small group teaching, therapy or parent meetings and changes to the main entrance from Coombe Road with a pathway directly into the Nursery. Works to the entrance way will start at the end of this term, and ground works for the extension will start in September, we are working with the contractors to have the extension built off site so that there is minimal disruption. We are aiming for the new extension to be open in January 2018.

  • Fidget Spinners

    Wed 03 May 2017

    No toys in school

The latest craze for children seems to be 'fidget spinners'.  For the vast majority of children, these spinners are toys and should not be in school.

For some pupils with specific additional needs, there maybe some educational value.  However, in these cases, the school will provide such items as part of our special needs provision.

  • More Musical Opportunities

Tue 02 May 2017 Michael Mappin

32 more children learning an instrument: new tutors for piano, 'cello and double bass

    How low can you go!

At Fielding, we are always looking for ways to improve and increase the music provision.  This year we are proud to announce the arrival of a new tutor specialising in ‘cello and double bass.  He is David Kadumukasa, a professional ‘cellist and tutor with Ealing Music Service.  Eight children will be taking ‘cello lessons with David, along with two double bass students.  Eventually these children will be able to join the Fielding Orchestra, adding a much-needed depth to the already excellent sound.

A new parent-driven initiative - Year 2 get into the act

Fielding’s new piano tutor starts on Monday 8th May.  She is Irma Cehic and teaches privately and in schools in the area.  Recommended by EMS, she will be teaching Year 2 children piano on Mondays and Tuesdays.  This is the first time, certainly within the memory of staff presently working at Fielding, that instrumental tuition has been offered to Year 2 children.  What’s more, it marks the beginning of a new initiative, prompted by requests from parents, to offer lessons to the younger children.  And that’s not the end of the story: from December we hope further to expand what we have on offer by hiring a new tutor specially to give violin lessons to Year 2 children.

“The (Fielding) curriculum provides remarkable experiences and exceptional tuition in music.”  OFSTED, 2017
