  • Childcare Update

Tue 18 Oct 2016 Karen Esprit

    Help us to help you

It’s been a great start to the Autumn Term with after school club and breakfast club bookings at their highest levels ever.  Remember, there are no waiting lists for childcare at Fielding.  We adjust the number of staff to match your needs.

Children have settled in extremely well and are enjoying playing with friends and excited to try out new activities.

To ensure all continues to run smoothly please be reminded of the following important points.

    • Childcare bookings continue to rollover each term.
      • If you no longer require childcare you must log on to Laser to cancel. This will then generate the 4 week notice period.
    • Are your child's medical and collection details up to date?
      • These are printed on the clubs registers so it’s important they are current and correct, please log in to Laser to check.
    • If your child is booked into a specialist club, please also ensure that childcare is also booked where needed to coincide for the duration of the evening. i.e. the hour before or after a specialist club.
    • Finally, please be reminded after school club closes at 6pm.
      • All children must be collected by this time or a late collection charge will be issued.
  • Hooray for Hercules

    Tue 18 Oct 2016

    Pupils enjoy half term treat

Pupils from Hercules constellation in Years 1 to 6 were celebrating today after winning this half term’s treat for collecting the most stars for their team by displaying excellent attitudes and behaviour in and around school. They enjoyed an afternoon of cupcake decorating and fruit kebab making whilst being the only pupils in school allowed to wear non-school uniform. Our older and younger pupils mixed together, sharing, co-operating, showing friendship and respect for one another; and siblings had fun spending the afternoon together. Pupils look forward to their half term treat and we are seeing behaviour and attitudes improve as a result of this much anticipated reward.

  • Creative Home Learning Show cases

    Thu 13 Oct 2016 L Stabler

    Creative Home Learning Show cases

Towards the end of every half term we celebrate the wonderful pieces of home learning the children produce linked to their Fielding Learning Challenge Curriculum topics. These showcase events were very popular last year with the children being able to share their work with the other children and teachers across their year group. They can explore what others have produced and receive both peer and adult feedback on their work.

This Year, each year group will open up one of their showcases so parents can come along and join in the celebrations. The dates are already on the year group calendar on Laser but are also listed below. The first showcase is for Year Six parents on the Thursday 20th October from 3.15 to 3.30pm

Looking forward to seeing you at one of our showcase events across the year.

    Thursday 20th October  3.15- Year 6

    Thursday 15th December  3.15pm - Year 5

  • What makes a good learner at Fielding Primary School?

    Thu 13 Oct 2016 L Stabler

    Visible Learning project continues

Last year as part of our Visible learning project, we spent a lot of time discussing with children, staff and parents the qualities that make a good learner. After making children aware of their learning process and planning dedicated lessons on being a good learner, we asked children in our parliament assemblies to define the key elements of what makes a good learner at our school. The views of the children across the school were compiled and we created a shared vocabulary of twelve features (shown below). These consist of things we use in lessons such as success criteria and the Rubrics grid which explain what needs to be included in a successful piece of work. This language has been shared with all children and used daily to ensure children are thinking about how they are approaching their work and how they could be better learners.

This will be discussed further, alongside some of our other exciting teaching and learning approaches in our parent workshop: Accelerating your child’s progress through Visible learning. This will be on November 23rd at 9.00 am and 6.30 pm.

Looking forward to seeing you there and to share more of what we do

  • Year 4 - The Fall of the Romans

Thu 13 Oct 2016 Mr McConnachie

With half term approaching, Year 4 are now reflecting on all the progress they have made already across all subjects, social settings and personal emotional development. Becoming better people through tolerance and empathy has been our focus to start the year and all of the children have shown consistent improvement on their understanding of these values.

Our Topic of, ‘Why were the Romans so powerful and what did we learn from them’, has come to an end with an epic day of fun and discovery of all things Roman!  Warrior Queen Boudicca’s legacy was explored, counting in Roman Numerals and marvellous mosaics were made!

Finally, home learning projects are flooding in already and our displays are filling up with wonderful pieces that clearly show how the kids have immersed themselves and are furthering their depth of understanding outside of the school setting.  This is the last weekend to complete any projects as the Home Learning Showcase will be on Wednesday the 19th of October.
