  • Sport this week

    Fri 10 May 2019

This week we saw action from our Year 5/6 basketball team who were competing in this years Borough Finals and our Year 3/4 Hockey teams who had a fixture against Holy Family. Each of our athletes represented the school really well with varying levels of success. The basketball team finished as the 3rd best team in the Borough and both of our Year 3/4 Hockey teams won against Holy Family.

A huge well done to everyone who was involved.

Check out the PE page for more details.

  • The Big Picnic - returns 8th June

    Thu 09 May 2019

Due to popular demand, The Big Picnic returns to the school grounds on Saturday 8th June 2019, from 2pm to 9 pm. It will be a great day for parents and carers to mingle while the kids are free to play on the school field.

Bring a picnic and picnic rug (or camping chairs) and enjoy a relaxing afternoon with friends. The gates will only be opened (for entry and exit) at 2pm and 5pm, 7pm and 9pm so that the kids can run about in safety with the gates locked at the other times. We'll have a BBQ, Refreshments, a Fire Engine (pending no emergencies) and other games during the day.

The weather currently looks like it will be warm and dry.

Tickets will go on sale from 8pm on Thursday 16th May 2019. Advanced tickets are £5 per family - a 50% reduction on tickets that will be available on the day (which will be £10). Advanced ticket bookings will stop on Tuesday 4th June. It is a relaxing day, great value and raises funds to spend on exciting things in school such as play equipment, school trips and the allotment.

  • Maths Update –New Maths at home guidance and Year 4 Multiplication Tables Assessments

Wed 08 May 2019 Mr McConnachie

    Dear Parents,

Year 4 will be taking their Multiplication Tables Assessments on the 25th  of June, 2019.

The test consists of 25 questions with 6 seconds given to answer each question.  This test will be comprised of multiplication facts up to 12X12 which is why we have invested in the Times Table Rock Stars school membership as the ‘Sound Check’ function mimics the exact format these SAT tests will take.

Please continue to encourage your child to practice daily and/or as often as they would like.

There is more information provided on the Department for Education website on this link:

    https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/multiplication-tables-check-assessment-framework

Also, there is new guidance for parents for ways to help at home if your child is struggling to grasp a mathematical skill, strategy or concept, which is now posted and available on the Maths curriculum page on the school website.

  • Friday 17th May application and cancellation deadline for Instrumental lessons in September

    Fri 03 May 2019 Maria Neil-Smith

The deadline for signing up to start instrumental lessons in September is Friday 17th May 2019. Please click here to view our ‘What we offer page’ for information on the range of instruments and prices we offer. In order to sign up to instrumental lessons at Fielding, you need to complete a Waiting List request form which you can download from the Music page of our website and return it to the Finance Manager via the school office or email a copy to finance@fielding.ealing.sch.uk. Read the terms and conditions on our website before submitting your form. If we receive your form after the deadline on Friday May 17th , your child will remain on the waiting list until a space becomes available and will hopefully be able to start in the Spring term. The children have had instrument recruitment sessions/ assemblies this week and the powerpoint with the information they have given along with an FAQS page, which you can refer to if you have any questions about learning an instrument, can be found on our website.

If you child is currently having instrumental lessons and wants to continue you do not need to re-enrol, we will automatically timetable them for September unless we receive a cancellation form. In the event that you need to cancel lessons please read the information below:

    1. Cancellations will only be processed if the cancellation form available on this webpage is completed and returned to the Finance Manager at finance@fielding.ealing.sch.uk

    2. In order to maintain a high standard of instrumental tuition, we have to give our tutors adequate notice of their hours each term. In our Terms & Conditions on our school website, half a term’s notice is required for cancellations. Therefore a cancellation form must be submitted by Friday 17th May 2019- for lessons ceasing in September 2019.

  • Thank you and next steps with assessment and sharing your child's progress

Fri 03 May 2019 Clare Haines

Thank you to all those parents who attended parent consultation meetings over the last two weeks to find out how well your children are learning at school.

In February I wrote to you to let you know that School Pupil Tracker is closing and that from next year we will be changing the way we assess your child's learning and how we share this information with you. We have reviewed the ways we will assess and record your child's progress from September.

While considering our new assessment arrangements we have ensured that they will:

    • show which children are on track and making progress and those who aren't
    • inform teaching
    • enable us to report progress to parents

In line with Ofsted and the DfE we have also considered teacher workload in order to prevent 'burn-out' and to retain our highly talented staff team.

We will be moving to two assessment points in the school year. At the beginning of the spring term and at the end of the summer term. We will move to use NFER tests for reading and mathematics, these will provide us with a standardised score and detailed gap analysis to tell us how much progress your child is making and if they are on  track to meet National Curriculum expectations for their age range.  The tests will also to inform our next steps in teaching. We will continue to use teacher assessment for writing, and in Early Years. Children's  reading ability will be 'Benchmarked' termly to ensure a good match of reading book to ability.

Children in Years 1, 2 and 6 will continue to sit the statutory assessments in the summer term  and Year 4 pupils will sit the new national times table check, again in the summer term.

We will re-align our parent meetings to the new assessment points and continue to send books home so that you can share your child's progress with them.

    This will look like:

    • Autumn 1, meet the teacher parent meetings
    • Autumn 2, books sent home
    • Spring 1, Y1 -6 NFER tests in maths and reading and parent consultation meetings
    • Spring 2, books sent home
    • Summer 1, books sent home (statutory assessments, Y2 and 6)
    • Summer 2, NFER tests (Y1,3,4,5), annual report to parents

We are in final talks with our preferred provider for a new software system which will hold all of our assessment information, once that is finalised I will share more information with you.

In the meantime we will continue to use SPTO this term and to publish annual reports in July. If you wish to keep any information that is currently stored on SPTO beyond that, then you will need to download it before the end of December.

  • Fielding Staff to get FREE Tea and Coffee from PTFA

    Fri 03 May 2019

As part of the school's recent parent survey, it also carried out a staff survey for teachers.  One question focused on the workplace environment.  One of the workplace improvements teachers mentioned was the desire to have free tea/coffee provided in the staff room rather than the ongoing issues of individual stocks of tea/coffee for each teacher.  The school is unable to use their resources for purchasing tea and coffee so it was decided that the PTFA, (at the recent meeting on Monday 29 April) as a special thank you to staff, will provide tea and coffee for one year's trial.

  • Tidder Disco (Nursery & Reception) on Sunday 12 May

    Thu 02 May 2019

We are just one week away from the Tiddler Disco - open to nursery and reception children, and their siblings.

The Disco will be taking place in the Main School Hall on Sunday 12 May from 2pm - 3:30pm.

The cost is £3 per child and £1 for siblings.

Tickets aren’t needed in advance, you can buy your ticket on the door on the day.

It’s going to be lots of fun and all proceeds go to the PTFA, which is working hard to raise funds for the school that will positively impact all of our children.

  • How will money raised by the PTFA help our children?

    Thu 02 May 2019

The PTFA has been working hard to raise additional funds for all of our children and the school. Thank you very much for supporting the fundraising activity by either volunteering to support an event or by attending an event. All support plays a valuable role and is greatly appreciated. So far, we have already raised over £25,000 this academic year - our target is £45,000.

So, where will the money go?

Every year we ask teachers to bid for some of the funds. This year the following bids have been put forward:

    • Curriculum boxes. Resources including books, costumes and other resources to support children's learning on various topics. These boxes will be rented by the school meaning children get fresh resources and it avoids the need for additional storage. Each teacher has six boxes per year.
    • Extension of kitchen garden with a raised pond area. Following the success of the Kitchen Garden, there is pupil demand to extend the garden to include a fenced off raised pond area to accommodate pond-life as part of the ecosystem.
    • Reading pods and shaded areas in the playing field. With the application of the multi-sport pitch, shaded areas can be added as part of this development and PTFA money can help to add to this project. Mr Webb's pupil group also request 'Reading Pods' as part of the development.
    • Books for school. The suggested reading lists are being overhauled to make the list more appealing and relevant. It would be lovely to have new books available to children in class provided by the PTFA.
