Creative home learning gets going again

As we are now into our second week of the term and have started our new Fielding Learning Challenge Curriculums it's time to start our next round of Creative Home learning. The pieces we have had  previously have been wonderful and we have thoroughly enjoyed exploring these in our Creative Home Learning Showcase events. The new feedback sheets from the last showcase events should now be coming home for you to read and celebrate with your child. Some of the Home Learning pieces have been displayed across the school and have enriched learning across the curriculum.

This time the Creative Home Learning task sheets are being posted on Year Group notice boards. Please read the sheets carefully as they include suggestions for the length of tasks because the points system has now been removed. Any queries regarding tasks please see you child’s class teacher for suggestions.

We can’t wait to see what the children produce this half term

Sequencing the story of The Tiger Child

This week, pupils in Year 1 have been retelling the story of The Tiger Child in English. They have written in role as the main character and discussed how the tiger child felt at different points of the story. Pupils learned how to use time connectives and adjectives to make their writing more exciting for the reader. They edited their piece of writing and checked their work while referring to the success criteria, in order to promote reflective learning. “I used capital letters, full stops and finger spaces. Next time I will choose different adjectives to make my writing more interesting” said Margaux in 1S.

Tue 12 Jan 2016 Miss Gladish

    Overnight Trip - Thursday 5th May 2016

To foster independence and a love of learning, we are introducing a new and exciting opportunity for the children in Year 4 to stay over at the Museum of London, which fits perfectly with our Learning Challenge for that half-term ‘Why is London such a cool place to live?’ The children will have the opportunity to walk in the shoes of past Londoners and hunt the galleries by torchlight in this special after hours event. We will also get to enjoy immersive and hands-on activities throughout the night exploring London's history from the Romans to the Victorians.

For more information, please see the trip letter.

The Fielding Times Tables Challenge goes live!

Your child will bring home a tracking sheet as part of home learning this week. Together, you will need to practise their targeted stage of the challenge at home over the course of the week to prepare for the timed (2 minutes) test in class.

    Happy multiplying!

  • Calculation videos

    Sun 10 Jan 2016 P O'Dwyer

On the maths page, under the curriculum area of the website, you can now find a link to some calculation videos. These videos, designed and shared by the London Grid for Learning, can be used as a tool at home to help support your child when practising calculations and other maths problems. Each video gives you an idea of how to complete calculations - in the same way your child is taught to solve them at school - and ideas for activities you could complete at home.

The site is divided by year group and then individual maths domain so is very easy to navigate.

    Happy calculating!

Nelson Mandela – Long Walk to Freedom

What a wonderful first week back we have had in Year 2! We have started a new English text which has really captured the interest of all pupils. This week we have been learning about autobiographies with a focus on a children’s version of Nelson Mandela’s book ‘Long Walk to Freedom’. From this text, the pupils have learnt all about who he was and what his life was like, sparking some great discussion within the classroom. We have used what we have learnt about Nelson Mandela’s life to make a timeline marking significant milestones which has aided pupils understanding of chronological order. Marley in 2H said “It’s been really interesting learning all about Nelson Mandela’s life and the struggles he went through.”
In addition to creating timelines, pupils have explored the main features of an autobiography, including identifying the difference between fact, fiction and opinion in order to support their own writing.
