  • Year 3's Character Descriptions

    Fri 22 Jan 2016

Year 3 writing, following our updated English curriculum policy

In Year 3 we have continued with our work on a character description of Oliver Twist. The children have used their first draft as a starting point to introduce their new learning into a second draft. We have focused on the children’s confidence in using extended sentences within their work, in particular subordinate clauses. The children finished their second draft and then analysed what they had written against the success criteria, identifying strengths and areas for improvement in their work. They then wrote up their final draft with all of the improvements. Miss McGee commented, ‘It is lovely to see all of the Year 3 children motivated to up level their work.  They can see their progress from their first attempt.’

  • Reception - The Jolly Postman

    Thu 21 Jan 2016

‘Who are the famous characters inside my books?’

In Reception our new topic is ‘Who are the famous characters inside my books?’ and as part of this we have been exploring our new learning challenge book ‘The Jolly Postman’.  All our activities have been linked to this book. In English the children have enjoyed writing a sorry letter from Goldilocks to the three bears, as well as compiling a list of ingredients for a witches’ potion. In maths the children have been learning how to halve and double a given number sharing ingredients for the witches between two cauldrons, counting the number of magic beans and then doubling it, as well as exploring weight by weighing the bears’ porridge to establish which one is heavier and which one is lighter. The children have also enjoyed dressing up as their favourite character from ‘The Jolly Postman’.

  • Values Quality Mark

    Thu 21 Jan 2016

Fielding becomes the first school in Ealing to be awarded Values Quality Mark

We are excited to announce that we have been awarded the prestigious IVET Values Quality Mark in recognition of our innovative Values-based Educational philosophy. We are the first school in Ealing and only the seventh primary school in London to ever be awarded this quality mark.

The award recognises that Fielding puts ‘values’ at the heart of the school. With a rounded programme of assemblies and events developing pupil's spiritual, moral, social, cultural and ethical intelligence, we create a cohesive and effective learning environment. Through a focus on values, pupils better understand themselves and the world around them, increasing self-esteem and confidence to explore and develop to their full potential.

We began our Values-based Education journey in the summer term of 2014, each new month we focus on a different value such as compassion, determination and responsibility. We also involve parents through our Values Ambassador award scheme and practice three compulsory daily classroom ‘brain breaks’ to allow pupils to reflect and focus on their learning.

Peter Dunmall, Head said: “We are very proud to have been awarded a Quality Mark for our Values-based Education philosophy. We believe that by putting values at the heart of everyday learning we are giving pupils the skills not only to excel academically, but to understand themselves as people. This understanding will be invaluable to them in the classroom today, and as they develop as adults in the future.”

Nigel Cohen at International Values-based Education Trust commented: “Fielding Primary School is providing the most wonderful environment for pupils, staff and the wider environment to experience and engage with their deeply meaningful values. It is clear that pupils who pass through this school are developing skills and competences that will help them develop a productive and fulfilling life.”

  • Year 5 Planetarium

Wed 20 Jan 2016 Miss Pyle

Will we ever send another human to the moon?

As part of Year 5’s new science learning challenge, we have arranged to have a portable planetarium in school. This event will take place on Monday 1st February 2016.

This is a brilliant opportunity for the children to extend their understanding of our star-speckled night sky and will be run by a real scientist! As you can imagine, the children are already quite excited!

Please make sure your permission slips are given directly to your child's teacher and that the £2 contribution is made via Parentmail2.

    Many thanks

    The Year 5 team

  • Visible Learning parent workshop

    Mon 18 Jan 2016 Miss L Stabler

Making the impact of our teaching and learning more visible

Over the last term we have been continuing to think about our impact on children’s learning through our new ‘Visible Learning project’. We are all very excited about this project, as it enables us to fully focus on exactly which approaches in the classroom have the most impact on children’s progress. We are delighted to now offer a parent workshop with our Visible Learning consultant, Laura Kearney, on Monday 1st February at 9.00am. “This is an exciting opportunity for parents to find out about the academic research behind this approach and how it is making an impact on children’s learning across the world,” explained Peter Dunmall, Head.

Although this is likely to be a very informative meeting we can unfortunately only offer one morning slot at this time due to the consultant's availability. We will share information from the workshop on the school website afterwards for those unable to make it.

In order to judge how many might attend please complete the reply slip on the letter on the link below.

Thank you and looking forward to seeing many of you there.

  • Fielding watch great game at London Scottish

    Mon 18 Jan 2016 Mr D Thomas

Fielding attend London Scottish vs Ospreys matchday experience

On Saturday 16th January, Fielding were invited by London Scottish to watch a B&I Cup game against Ospreys Select. The guys who attended had a great day out which involved a pre-game coaching session by a London Scottish coach, the opportunity to form a guard of honour and welcome both teams onto the field before the game AND THEN they got some great seats to actually watch the game. It turned out to be a very exciting game with London Scottish winning 49-7.

This whole experience was offered to all of our Year 4, 5 and 6 children completely free of charge! We are continuing to work with London Scottish this year and are hoping to arrange another experience later in the year so keep your eyes and ears open for the next one.

We would like to say a big thank you to Ross and everybody else at London Scottish for organising this and letting us be part of a great day. We are already looking forward to the next one!

Also thank you to Lisa and Ian Fox for getting some great photos for us!
