  • Reception admissions, September 2016

    Mon 18 Apr 2016

Over 500 applications for 120 places

Fielding received over 500 applications for admission to our Reception classes in September 2016.  Of these, 145 applicants chose Fielding as their first preference school.

As part of the pan London admission arrangements, offers for our 120 Reception class places have been made to parents today.

Around half of children offered a place at Fielding already have a brother or sister at the school.  The remaining places were allocated according to distance criteria with the last offer being made to a child living just 0.35 miles from the school.

Ealing Council, the admissions authority for Fielding, is operating a waiting list system for 63 children who have been offered a school place elsewhere but have placed Fielding as a higher preference school.

Parents who applied to Fielding this year highlighted:

    • continuity in joining Reception from our Nursery;
    • the success of older brothers and sisters already in school;
    • and for new families to the school, the positive impression that Year 6 pupils had given during our open morning tours and the resources available to a larger school, including specialist French, music and PE teaching.

  • New topic in Reception

    Thu 14 Apr 2016 C. Woolley

This week in Reception we’ve been learning about oceans and seas as part of our new topic ‘Who will you find in the Deep, Blue Sea? Tying in with this topic is our new Learning Challenge Curriculum book ‘Billy’s Bucket’ about a boy who only wants a bucket for his birthday. In our English lessons, the children initially predicted what the story was about, wrote their own birthday lists and developed sentences about what they might see in their bucket. In Maths we have been practising doubling and ordering numbers to 20.

  • Why is London such a cool place to live?

Thu 14 Apr 2016 Mr. McConnachie

With the start of the final term well and truly underway, Year 4 are beginning to digest the new and wonderful Learning Challenge curriculum topic of, ‘Why is London such a cool place to live?’.   Along with the new creative home learning tasks and the much anticipated night at the Museum, this half term is shaping up to be a fun and interactive exploration of everything London has to offer!

Our trip to the London Museum on the 5th of May is all set and any information required can be found on the school website in the ‘Letters’ section and ‘Year Group Notice Board’.   Brave parents and staff are perhaps even more excited than the kids and there might even be a chance of Mr. Dunmall joining the troops for this magical experience!

  • Bikeability training starts again

Wed 13 Apr 2016 Mr Thomas

A group of Year 5 children will start a 5 week Bikeability training course next Tuesday to improve their bike handling skills and learn how to be safer when riding on the roads.

All children and parents have already been notified if they have a place on the course and they are all excited to start next week. If you have missed out this time, keep your fingers crossed as there is a very small chance that we might be able to run one more course after half term.

During the last Bikeability training, Ealing council made a video to promote the bike bus that they were piloting with our students. Due to the success of the bus they have decided to run it again so hopefully this next group of children get as much out of it as the last.

  • Childcare-Celebrating our wrap-around care

    Wed 13 Apr 2016

In May 2013, Fielding Primary launched it’s own wrap around, designed for working parents. Fielding was keen to offer, high-quality, affordable childcare under the school umbrella. The launch was so successful that the club has continued to grow and develop term after term. The biggest and most beneficial changes for parents were launched in January this year, allowing accessible, flexible childcare for more families. Improvements have included:

    • Flexible timeslots for booking
    • Reduced price for those attending a specialist club on the same day
    • Unlimited ad-hoc booking for Breakfast, After School and Holiday Club
    • No waiting lists- availability whenever families need childcare

As we are approaching our 3 year anniversary we wanted to celebrate our valuable provision by sharing our key successes with parents. Follow the link below to see our childcare provision in number.

Don't forget to get your booking forms in for the Roller Disco. The disco is on Saturday 23rd of April and we have some availability at all sessions.

    PTFA Meetings

There are two PTFA meetings next week: one at 9am on Tuesday 19th April in the school house and the other on Wednesday 20th April at 8.30pm in the top room of the Foresters Pub. We will be chatting about the Summer Fair planning, the Roller Disco, the Car Boot Sale and the Campout. Would be great to see as many people there as can make it.

    PTFA Summer Fair

'It's that time of year again, we are gathering prizes for the Summer Fair Raffle and Silent Auction. In the past parents have been super generous, donating tangible items, such as signed photographs of celebrities, as well as experiences, like a weekend in a top London hotel. Some of the donations we receive make excellent raffle prizes others we use for the Silent Auction at the Summer Fair. Last summer we raised around £2000 from just these two stalls and with the generosity of the school community we hope to have another successful year. If you can donate anything please drop us a line via email or into our post box in the school office.

    Camp Out

Date for your diary - this year the 'Fielding Camp Out' will be held on Saturday 9th July. More details and information will follow after the Easter holidays. The PTFA

  • Do you love books, have great organisation skills and a little spare time?

    Mon 11 Apr 2016

Children in KS2 love their library.

Our KS2 library is a busy place, it  is used at break and lunchtimes as well as before and after school. We have keen librarians who spend their time issuing and returning books, unfortunately the librarians just don't have enough time to tidy and organise the library stock.

We are looking for a small group of parent volunteers who would like to regularly offer a slot of time to help keep our library organised. If you love books, have great organisation skills and a little bit of time to spare, please email in to admin@fielding.ealing.sch.uk, we would love to hear from you.
