    Thu 22 Mar 2018

On Saturday 28 April, Fielding PTFA are very excited to be holding a disco for Nursery and Reception children only (plus siblings) in the Main School Hall from 2-4pm. The DJ will be getting your little one moving and grooving playing all their favourite tunes with lots of dancing games to entertain them. Tickets are £5 each, payable on the day, with all proceeds going to the PTFA to help pay for the new sandpit, which all the children seem to be really loving.

We will be selling refreshments but if anyone would like to bring some cakes that we can sell too, that would be fantastic!

Please note, all children remain the responsibility of the parents at all times. We will require a few volunteers on the day, further details to follow.  We really hope you can come and look forward to seeing you there!

  • Sport Relief 2018

    Sat 17 Mar 2018

    Land's End to John O'Groats

Pupils to wear own choice of sports kit on Friday 23rd March, donate at least £1 and complete laps of the school field during the day.

Sport Relief 2018 is back next week and after such a successful event for Sport Relief 2016 where we played in a Sunrise to Sunset football match, we wanted to maintain our new tradition of completing a whole school challenge of epic proportions.

This year we are going to collectively run the distance it takes to travel from Land's End in Cornwall all the way across the British Isles to the very northern tip at John O'Groats in Scotland. This mammoth distance is a huge 874 miles!

We already know that 5 laps of our school field is 1 mile and so have worked out that we only need to do 4370 laps to cover that distance!

As with the last event, we want the whole school community to get involved in the day (including parents!) so we can all say we have completed the challenge. Mr Thomas and Mr Winn will kick off the challenge at 8.00am on Friday 23rd March with Cross Country club. We are then hoping that parents will want to get involved and cross off some laps between 8.30am and 9.00am. Then throughout the school day, classes will come out to field with their teacher to join Mr Thomas and Mr Winn, to run or walk as many laps as they can in half hour slots. Mr Thomas and Mr Winn will be running a mile with every single class that comes out so will be running a marathon 26 miles each by the end of the day. At 3.15pm it will be the parents turn to get involved again to try to get some more laps off of the target before we finish at 4.00pm. If all goes well we should have completed the required laps by then! If not, Mr Thomas and Mr Winn will have a late night!

We were told this week by Comic Relief, that thanks to all of your generous donations for the last challenge in 2016, Fielding were in the top 1500 schools nationally for money raised for Sport Relief. That is a fantastic achievement so thank you very much for all of your support for that last one. It's a big target but we want to get near that again this year. So children are invited to come to school on Friday 23rd March in their own sporting attire - the sportier the better! We are just going to ask that they also bring £1 as a suggested donation for the day. If you are feeling extra generous and are planning on joining us to run either before or after school there will also be a collection bucket near the start line for any spare pennies you may have lying around. Alternatively, you can donate online via out just giving page at:

    https://my.sportrelief.com/sponsor/ashleywinn2266669

What we don't want is anybody to stress about taking part in the challenge. Remember, you can walk around the field if you want to. You can run a lap then walk a lap. You can run for the whole time. It does not matter how you take part, just 1 lap will help us raise some money for a really great cause.

So remember your trainers and your sports kit on Friday 23rd March to help Fielding get from Land's End to John O'Groats.

  • Summer Term Specialist Club Launch

    Fri 16 Mar 2018

    So what’s different?

The summer term has some great seasonal additions for the children to enjoy, with the prospect of brighter and warmer days we will be making the best use of the school playing fields bringing back Golf, Forest School and Cricket clubs. The school field permits a much broader offer of sporting activities in the summer months so where possible sports clubs will be held outside as the Sports Hall has reached it capacity after school hours.

The evaluation of the Annual Parent Survey showed variety is a key strength of our specialist clubs. We aim to give children as much choice as possible and the chance to try something new. Therefore, we are offering 3 new clubs this term:

    • Running club
    • London Lens Photography
    • Fencing club

We review demand for clubs term by term. Sometimes we need to withdraw less popular clubs so that we continue to use all of our available space after school.

Last term clubs were evaluated for gender equality, the results were very interesting showing gaps in the uptake of certain clubs for both boys and girls. Some girls told us that they were ‘put off’ football because too few other girls played. Therefore, to give our children more choice, we are piloting 2 new clubs for boys or girls only:

    • QPR Football, Girls only
    • Contemporary Dance, Boys only, themed on BalletBoyz. Click here to see some of the great work the tutors at BalletBoyz do.

We will review uptake which will help us plan next term’s clubs.

Once again waiting lists have been used to increase availability of some of our most popular clubs. This term an extra Muddy Hands gardening club will be introduced for Year 1 and 2 children. We will be expecting bumper crops this summer with the extra muddy hands hard at work!

Throughout the term all clubs are carefully monitored for quality, with the enjoyment of children being an essential ingredient. Monitoring of the art club showed that quality was not high enough for our pupils so for the summer term we will be introducing two new art club providers, one for Years 1 & 2 and a separate one for Years 3-6. Both are highly recommended and are currently working in other schools. Sadly Rhythmic Gymnastics will not be in the summer programme, our current provider is expanding her own club so can no longer supply us with a coach. We will be introducing a new gymnastic club for the Autumn term.

We do understand booking has been a frustration and have carefully considered alternative booking methods, however we will not be changing the booking system at this time. On balance, we will continue with the first-come first served system, but limiting access to just 2 devices per pupil account.

The summer term programme can be viewed here for browsing, bookings will open on the following dates and times

    Reception and Years 1 & 2: Monday 19th March 2018 – 8.00pm

    Years 3, 4, 5 & 6: Wednesday 21st March 2018 – 8.00pm

  • Data privacy law is changing

Fri 16 Mar 2018 Peter Dunmall

One of the biggest changes to UK data privacy law comes into effect on 25th May.  The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is European wide legislation designed to give individuals more control over how your own data is used.  Schools must comply with the new rules.

We have updated our Privacy Notice to reflect the changes, based on a model document given to schools by the Department for Education.

As part of these broader changes, you may soon find that a wide range of different organisations will contact you to explain how and why they process your information or ask you how you would like them to use information about you.

We must either have a legal basis for holding information or seek your agreement to hold and process the information.  We have a legal basis to hold most of the information about you, your child and our staff because the government and UK law requires us to do so.

We currently also hold a digital image of your child on our systems.  The photograph is taken and matches the photo that you are offered to buy each year.  We use this photo to help adults identify and know each child.

At the next parent consultation meeting, we will show you a copy of the information that we hold about you and your child.  You will be asked to check that it is accurate.  We will also seek your agreement to hold a digital image of your child.

As we move closer to 25th May, more details about the impact of GDPR on schools is emerging.  Our work in this area is likely to be on-going.  If parents have any advice, comments or questions (particularly based on any experience of GDPR through work in your own sectors) then please contact me.

  • Nursery fun in the sand thanks to PTFA

    Fri 16 Mar 2018

Nursery children have enjoyed playing in their new, giant sandpit thanks to funding from the PTFA.

An additional £8,000 donation from the PTFA to school has enabled us to compliment the new Nursery building extension with a dedicated sandpit and four raised planting beds.  The works were completed to coincide with the completion of the main building project.

Children have enjoyed playing with buckets and spades this week in the sand.  Gardening activities for the planting beds will start as we move into late spring and early summer.

Parents in Reception and Nursery continue to hold events to raise more funds to cover the costs.
