  • Kitchen Garden wins award

Fri 14 Sep 2018 Ellie Lock

Fielding Kitchen Garden has won an award! Thanks to the hard work of the children and volunteers, we've won the Royal Horticultural Society Level 3 Award for the garden, specifically the composting cycle. Our prize is a delivery of wonderful vegetables we can grow over Winter. Not many schools can say they have an award winning compost heap!

We're planning to get the whole school building a Bug Hotel this Autumn, and we'd love donations of things to keep bugs snug -  like bamboo canes, pinecones, bricks and bark. There's one big donation we'd really like, if anyone can help - an old wooden bookcase as the frame for the Bug Hotel. More details and photos here http://www.fieldingprimary.com/kitchen-garden/

  • Brand new Values Baccalaureate

    Thu 13 Sep 2018 Miss L Stabler

We have some very exciting Values news to share! Not only do we have a new set of 22 Values to focus on for the next 2 years but we also have a brand new 3 tiered Values Baccalaureate.

The original Value Baccalaureate was bought in 4 years ago to give children the opportunity to demonstrate and use our Values in the both the wider school and local communities. This has proven very successful with many children earning their Baccalaureate patches. However, some children have been disappointed that this only existed in Year 4 and that there seemed to be nowhere to go with this once completed.

So after working last year, with our very engaged and passionate Values action group made up of members form Years 4,5 and 6, we are excited to now announce there are three levels to our Values Baccalaureate. Year 4 children will start by completing Bronze level (similar to the original set of tasks). Once Bronze level has been completed, they will be rewarded with a Bronze patch and will then be able to focus on achieving Siler level and then Gold. The tasks has been designed and adapted so they build in size and difficulty. The intended idea is that children can complete these over Years 4, 5 and 6 but the children are free to work at their own pace. These new levels and tasks have been introduced to children in a special assembly this week. One of the most exciting things is that if they previously did not manage to complete their Values baccalaureate they can now have another attempt by starting on the Bronze level tasks. However, if they already achieved their Values Baccalaureate in Year 4 they can now go straight onto on their Silver award.

This is a very exciting project for us as our Values-based Education and ethos is at the very core of what we do at Fielding so we are giving the children the opportunity to build on their knowledge and passion for Values and demonstrate them more widely.

The new Baccalaureate task cards will be given to children but copies will also soon be available on the Values area of our school website so these can be accessed if needed.

Please see photos below to see lists of new values, what the task booklets look like and what our fantastic new Bronze, Silver and Gold patches look like.

Looking forward to sharing successes to do with Bronze, Silver and possibly Gold very soon!!

  • PTFA Meeting - Deciding the events for the next 10 months! - Mon 17 Sept 2018 (9am & 8.30pm)

    Thu 13 Sep 2018

The PTFA will be hosting the first parent meeting of the academic year. This meeting will welcome new parents, thank any outgoing class reps and give an overview of the successful events of last year - which raised over £40,000. Importantly we aim to set the events calendar for the 2018/2019 academic year and discuss the structure of the committee in advance of the upcoming AGM (which is on 1 October). Last year's structure didn't quite work and replied on too few people to deliver the calendar.

The meeting, being held on Monday 17 September, will be repeated twice during the day (once in the morning with Mr Dunmall, and again in the evening) to allow as many parents/carers to participate.

The morning meeting is in the school house after morning drop-off (9.00am) and the evening meeting, also in the school house, at 8.30pm. All parents are welcome to join us at one of these meetings and it would be great if at least one class rep from each class is able to attend one of these meetings to ensure we get as much feedback on the calendar as possible.

The morning meeting is accompanied by tea and coffee. The evening meeting is accompanied by a glass of wine and it would be great for parents to stay for a drink or two after the meeting. It is a great opportunity to meet other parents especially if you are new to the school. We look forward to seeing you there!

  • Responsible use of social media

    Thu 13 Sep 2018

Social media and social networking sites play an important role in the lives of many. We recognise there are many benefits to communicating in this way, but equally use of these sites can also bring risks, or be harmful to others.  We recognise that good communication between parents and the school is the key to a successful working relationship. This article aims to give clarity to the way in which social media should and shouldn’t be used by parents in regard to school to ensure any issues or concerns are tackled quickly.

As a school our main communication channels are the Year Group Noticeboards, Latest News Bulletin via email and the website in general. We use social media to communicate latest news and updates about events, parents often interact with our social media posts and this is very much appreciated, thank you.

We are aware that parents use social media including Facebook and WhatsApp as a useful way to communicate to each other in relation to school events and activities. School has no input (nor should it have) in these. However it has come to our attention that some parents are using these forums to raise concerns. To ensure that all concerns are dealt with quickly and effectively we would like to remind you not to discuss children or concerns that are better directed to school. If you have a concern about school or your child, no matter how small, please contact the school directly via your child’s class teacher or the admin team at admin@fielding.ealing.sch.uk

For more information please also see our:

We would also like to remind you to not to post photographs taken at school events other than of your own children (or if you have permission of the other parents) on social media.

  • How we measure and share your child's progress with you.

    Wed 12 Sep 2018

"Knowing where children are at, where they need to go and how they will get there".

These are the underlying principles of our Visible Learning approach to teaching and learning at Fielding. They are important components within our assessment structure, which pupils are very much a part of.

Teacher's at Fielding assess your children's learning and how well they progress through a clearly planned sequence of learning to acquire skills and the knowledge needed to apply them in a variety of ways.

The principles that underpin our assessment system are:

    • Every child can achieve: teachers at Fielding have the mindset, ‘What do I need to do next to enable a child in my class to achieve?’
    • Objectives from the  National Curriculum and Early Years Foundation Stage Profile arel be used as the expectations for all children.
    • Pupils will make age appropriate progress from their different starting points – 12 months in 12 months, more for those who need to 'close the gap' to reach  age related expectations.
    • Teachers are experts at assessment - assessment is effectively used to ensure the correct scaffolding is built into lessons to ensure all children achieve.

Our assessment and reporting system includes:

    • Ongoing assessment against the National Curriculum objectives by the class teacher throughout each lesson, through questioning, observation and dialogue.
    • Children knowing what they are being asked to learn and more importantly, why.
    • Children are partners in the learning process, using rubrics and pre/post asssessment tasks to know where they are at in the learning journey, where they need to go next and what they need to do to get there.
    • Success Criteria are discussed and agreed with or formulated by the children during each lesson, work is then assessed against the success criteria.
    • Three way feedback, pupil, peer, teacher with clearly identified next steps – this can be written or verbal feedback.
    • Regular pupils’ work scrutiny.
    • Progress tests for maths.

All of the above  feed into 'Data snap-shots', these take place at class, phase and subject level three times a year, towards the end of each term.

How we share this information with you:

    • Books home, at least once each term your child will come home with their English and maths books, ready to share their progress with you, You will have an opportunity to make comments on this to share with your child and the class teacher, look out for the dates on your Year Group Noticeboard.
    • Following each 'Data-Snapshot' we  report termly to you via School Pupil Tracker Online (SPTO). You will have on-line access to your child's assessment data at all times, apart from when the ‘Data Snap-Shots’ are taking place.
    • Discussions at parent, teacher, consultation meetings in the Autumn, Spring and Summer terms are based on the assessment system in place for each age group, these are early in the term to discuss the previous terms progress.
    • You will also receive an annual report and outcomes of statutory assessments at the end of the Summer Term.
