Primary School and Nursery
Keep up to date with all the news happening in the school at the moment. Articles are added during the week. Parents are encouraged to check regularly. Our weekly bulletin, emailed directly to parents, summarises content for the week.
As the country moves to Step 4 of the roadmap, the government has published new guidance to schools this week:
This marks a new phase in the government’s response to the pandemic, moving away from restrictions on everyone’s day-to-day lives, towards advising people on how to protect themselves and others, alongside targeted interventions to reduce risk. The government says that direct risks to children are low and every adult will be offered two doses of the vaccine by mid-September.
We will continue to assess and control risks so that our staff and pupils continue to be as safe as possible at school. Emphasis will shift to:
Our road map to relax restrictions in school is in several stages:
To the end of term
Continue with current arrangements to end of term so that pupils and staff start the school holiday period with as little risk of coronavirus infection as possible.
We will check uptake and places at specialist clubs for the Autumn Term. These were organised and booked by year group bubbles. Where year group bubbles are now removed, we will offer spare places to oldest pupils first so they have a chance to catch-up on missed opportunities.
Summer holiday clubs for childcare and Nursery
Nursery and year group 'bubbles' are removed:
All COVID-19 signage and 2m distance marking inside the school is removed.
From 1 September
The government has told schools that priority is delivering face-to-face, high quality education. We must use proportionate control measures as part of an on-going risk assessment. This means:
We will be keeping some things the same to keep staff and pupils as safe as possible until all adults have been offered 2 doses of the vaccine:
Other things are running more smoothly as a result of COVID changes and will also stay the same:
We will review use of Breakfast Club and the need for childcare before school. As national restrictions relax, more parents may return to office-based work more often in the week, resulting in an increase in the need for morning childcare. If not, we will need to review the viability of offering Breakfast Club before school.
From 1 October
All staff will have been offered 2 doses of the vaccine by mid-September. We will further relax our restrictions, including the changes made from 1 September, and return to pre-COVID arrangements:
Some things have worked better as a result of COVID-19 changes and we will offer a flexible approach:
We all need to be ready to return to class and year group bubble arrangements, including class bubbles being sent home for remote learning, if any local restrictions are implemented by the government and/or Ealing Council.
I remain worried that national restrictions will lift, infections increase and staff are not able to work as a result of becoming infected and unwell, even with the vaccine. We will monitor, review and manage this as best we can.
Although the Summer Fair was not able to take place in its usual fashion due to ongoing Covid-19 restrictions, the PTFA managed to pull all the stops out and continue to run activities that raised over £12,500 in just a few short weeks.
Your child's end of year report will be published on MCAS on Tuesday 13th July. It will be available to download from 12noon.

Gifts to members of staff are never expected and should not be asked for. However, parents might want to show their thanks to a member of staff at this time of year. Gifts continue to be welcome but we must remain COVID-safe to minimise the risk of coronavirus infection. This year:
It is important that we remain COVID-safe with few changes to the end of term so that staff and pupils start the school holiday period as infection free as possible.
I will write later this week with details of our school's roadmap to reduce coronavirus restrictions in-line with the government's expectations on schools.

To prevent the spread of head lice the NHS has produced these guidelines. Please could you regularly check your child's hair and ensure long hair is tied back.
Head lice and nits
Head lice and nits are very common in young children and their families. They don't have anything to do with dirty hair and are picked up by head-to-head contact.
How to get rid of head lice
You can treat head lice without seeing a GP.
Treat head lice as soon as you spot them.
You should check everyone in the house and start treating anyone who has head lice on the same day.
There's no need to keep your child off school if they have head lice.
Wet combing
Lice and nits can be removed by wet combing. You should try this method first.
You can buy a special fine-toothed comb (detection comb) online or from pharmacies to remove head lice and nits.
There may be instructions on the pack, but usually you:
wash hair with ordinary shampoo
apply lots of conditioner (any conditioner will do)
comb the whole head of hair, from the roots to the ends
It usually takes about 10 minutes to comb short hair, and 20 to 30 minutes for long, frizzy or curly hair.
Do wet combing on days 1, 5, 9 and 13 to catch any newly hatched head lice. Check again that everyone's hair is free of lice on day 17.
For more information about wet combing, see the healthychildren.org website.
Medicated lotions and sprays
Ask your pharmacist for advice if you have tried wet combing for 17 days, but your child still has live head lice.
They may recommend using medicated lotions and sprays. These kill head lice in all types of hair, and you can buy them from pharmacies, supermarkets or online.
Head lice should die within a day. Some lotions and sprays come with a comb to remove dead lice and eggs.
Some treatments need to be repeated after a week to kill any newly hatched lice.
Check the pack to see if they're OK for you or your child and how to use them.
If lotions or sprays don't work, speak to your pharmacist about other treatments.
Some treatments aren't recommended because they're unlikely to work.
For example:
products containing permethrin
head lice "repellents"
electric combs for head lice
tree and plant oil treatments, such as tea tree oil, eucalyptus oil and lavender oil herbal remedies
You can't prevent head lice
There's nothing you can do to prevent head lice.
You can help stop them spreading by wet or dry combing regularly to catch them early.
Do not use medicated lotions and sprays to prevent head lice. They can irritate the scalp.
There's no need for children to stay off school or to wash laundry on a hot wash.

As we approach the end of term we look back and reflect on the positive impact the return of specialist clubs has provided for the children. Clubs have been cautiously monitored and adapted to run safely in year group bubbles. It has been a great pleasure to see children embrace the change, continue to thrive and enjoy developing new skills and friendships.
On Tuesday 22nd June children in Judo club took part in grading here at school, everyone was well prepared and executed the required techniques to a very high standard, theory proved to be strong too. All that were graded successfully achieved a belt higher showing their progress and commitment to training.
All the grades will be registered with the British Judo Association and all will receive Certificates confirming their grade. A big well done and congratulations on a successful grading.
