  • Virtual author Visit in Year 2 and 3 and this week's Reading Celebrations!

    Thu 16 Jun 2022 P.Whaley

Pupils in Years 2 and 3 are eagerly awaiting a Virtual Author visit at 10:30am tomorrow morning from author,  Sharna Jackson, author of, 'The Good Turn.' Copies of the book have been purchased for children who receive a Pupil Premium grant in these year groups. To find out further information, please click here. This follows the success of previous virtual author visits in Reception, Year 1, Years 4, 5 and 6.

Sharna Jackson is an award-winning author and curator who specialises in developing socially-engaged initiatives for children across culture, publishing and entertainment. She was recently the Artistic Director at Site Gallery in Sheffield, and was formerly the editor of the Tate Kids website. Sharna's debut novel High-Rise Mystery received numerous awards and accolades including the Waterstones Book Prize for the Best Book for Younger Readers. Sharna lives on a ship in Rotterdam in the Netherlands.

It has been a pleasure to see even more pupils at Fielding being awarded Bronze, Silver, Gold and even Platinum Reading Awards this week. These are achieved for pupils having read  5, 10, 15 or 25 books from their year group recommended reading lists and completing response activities (from the options provided in their reading record). Response activities can be submitted to class teachers on Teams under their class notebook, in the recommended reading section or handed in to their class teachers in person. We look forward to celebrating more reading achievements next week!

You can view your child's current recommended reading list when you sign their reading record or click on this link and scroll to the bottom of the page. English | Fielding Primary School. In preparation for next academic year, teachers have updated the  lists to include even more of a diverse range. These can also be viewed by following the above link. These will be published in your child’s new reading record which they will receive in September.

£1500 has been spent on new book stock in the KS1 and KS2 libraries and the delivery has begun to arrive this week! Children will have an opportunity to look at the new books during their timetabled library sessions with our school librarian, Mrs Hodge, and will continue to be able to borrow books to bring home. Please do ensure that your child remembers to return the books once they have finished reading them so that others can enjoy them.

Please do continue to take the time to read daily with and/or listen to your child read for 20 minutes and sign their reading record. This is invaluable as it instils a love of reading amongst our pupils and essential to teachers as they continue to monitor the books that their pupils are reading at home and recommend new books based on their interests.

  • Charity event - 12th July - Design a mask

    Mon 13 Jun 2022

Each year, Fielding pupils choose 3 charities to support which include: one local charity, one national and one global. This year the pupils have chosen to  support: Ealing Food, the RSPCA and World Wildlife Fund (WFF). For more information about how we choose charities, please see here.

This term, we are supporting The WWF and the RSPCA.

As both of these charities support animals, we are asking children to decorate an animal mask. There are templates available on the WWF website, should you wish to use them. Class teachers will also have a selection to distribute to those who would like one. On the 12th July, there will be class parades for those with masks. In return we ask for a small monetary donation, which will be split equally between the two charities. Anyone wishing to donate, can do so by handing cash to their child’s class teacher on the 12th July.

  • Fielding Year 5 Netball team compete in Carpenter Cup

Mon 13 Jun 2022 Dan Thomas

On Monday, Fielding took 2 Year 5 Netball teams to Elthorne High School to compete in this years Carpenter Cup. We were due to play against a mixture of Year 5 and 6 teams and so were excited to get some competition experience and see what lessons we could learn for next year. Each of our teams played 4 games each and neither managed to get a win today as we saw the level that we could be playing at next year after another full year of Netball. Although we left without a win, we left with lessons learned and a clear idea of where we needed to improve to be ready for next year. Well done to each of our players today!

  • Fielding runners up in Peal Shield and Ealing Girls Cup

Mon 13 Jun 2022 Dan Thomas

On Friday, Fielding took the boys and girls football teams to Gunnersbury Park to compete in this years Peal Shield and Ealing Girls Cup Finals. Both teams have been training all year and have made huge improvements since September and were now excited to be competing for another trophy.

The Girls team, who beat Selborne in the semi final to get here, were playing against tournament favourites Oaklands in today's game. Going into the game, we knew it would take a huge effort to get the win today but we ready for the challenge. In the first half we found ourselves defending for our life at times with our goalkeeper making some crucial saves to keep us level. We didn't make it out of our own half much in the first half but we managed to keep the score at 0-0 after the first 20 minutes. We regrouped at half time and came out for the second half with a plan to put Oaklands under more pressure. It worked and we started to get into the game and forced the Oaklands keeper into making her own important saves now. The pressure we were building eventually paid off as a shot was scrambled into the Oaklands net and we went 1-0 up. We continued to grow in the game and looked like we could score again but were aware of the danger Oaklands still posed. The game went into the final minute and just as it looked like the whistle would be blown for full time, Oaklands scored. 1-1. The goal rattled us and seconds after the restart, Oaklands scored again to take the lead. With only seconds remaining we couldn't reply and the whistle did blow for full time. It wasn't the result we hoped for but we were still very proud of the achievements of our girls this year.

The boys final kicked off afterwards against St. Mark's. We beat Holy Family in the semi final to get here and again knew it would be a tough game after losing to St. Mark's in the Featherstone final on penalties and drawing 2-2 with them in group stages of the Peal Shield. We started very well in this game and created a number of chances to come close to taking the lead. St. Mark's also threatened and our own goalkeeper again made some excellent saves. After about 5 minute we did take the lead to go 1-0 up. Minutes later St. Mark's replied to make it 1-1. We kept going and created more chances and soon took the lead again before once more St. Mark's equalised. The whistle blew for half time in a game which so far was end to end. We were forced into making a change through injury before the second half but went out for the second half hoping for more goals and to this time build on a lead. It was St. Mark's who struck first this time though as they took the lead for the first time in the game. They soon scored again to create a 2 goal cushion and then played very well to stop us getting back into the game. After a very tough second half, we lost 7-2. It was a tough result to take as the boys finished as runners up for the second time this year but again we are still very proud of them all.

Well done to everyone who has been part of the boys and girls football squads this year!

  • Fielding complete 3rd round of fixtures in Featherstone Girls Football League

Thu 09 Jun 2022 Dan Thomas

On Thursday, Fielding's Girls Football Development Squad went to Spikes Bridge Park to compete in the final day of this years Featherstone Girls Football League. It was going to be a busy day of matches and the girls were keen to get started in their first game against St. Anselm's. It was a tense start to the days games as we played out a 0-0 draw with very few chances created by both teams.

Our second game of the day was Oaklands, the team due to play against our Performance squad in this years Ealing Girls Cup Final so we knew this would be a very tough game. We held on for a little while but eventually Oaklands took the lead. Our girls, kept their heads up and worked their hardest to get back in the game but we ended the game with a 3-0 loss.

Clifton were our third game of the the day and we were keen to get our first win. We got off to a great start as we broke down the right hand side of the pitch and Avaani hit a great shot across the goalkeeper into the back of the net. The lead didn't last though as Clitfon equalized before they also fired in a second to win the game 2-1.

In game 4 we were up against Blair Peach. It was another close game with few chances created by both teams. Fielding came close but it was Blair Peach who got the goal and ultimately the win.

Our final game of the day was against Dormers Wells and we went into it still searching for our first win. We worked and worked and almost found a break through but it didn't come. Our defence was also strong though and kept Dormers Wells out and so we ended the day with another 0-0 draw.

Although we ended up not getting the win we wanted we learnt a lot as the games went on. The girls had a great day and are keen to get back to training. Well done to all of the girls today!
