  • Polio Booster Vaccinations

Fri 16 Sep 2022 NHS NW London Vaccinations

Following the detection of polio virus in sewage samples taken from North and East London, the NHS is offering all 1-9 year olds in London a polio booster vaccination. For some children this may be an extra dose of polio vaccine, on top of their routine vaccinations. In other children it may just bring them up to date.

Polio is an infection caused by a virus that attacks the nervous system – it can cause permanent paralysis of muscles. Because of the success of the polio vaccination programme, there have been no cases of natural polio infection in the UK since 1984. By giving an extra polio vaccine dose, this will boost each child’s protection.

Find more information about polio, its symptoms, and vaccinations by visiting:

You can read the information leaflet by visiting:

    Getting Vaccinated

The polio vaccine is safe and effective. The best way to prevent polio is to make sure parents/carers and children are up to date with their vaccinations. The vaccine is given as part of a combined jab to babies, toddlers, and teenagers as part of the NHS routine childhood vaccination schedule.

It's given when the child is:

    • 8, 12 and 16 weeks old as part of the 6-in-1 vaccine
    • 3 years and 4 months old as part of the 4-in-1 (DTaP/IPV) pre-school booster
    • 14 years old as part of the 3-in-1 (Td/IPV) teenage booster

You will need to have all these vaccinations to be fully vaccinated against polio.

The NHS in London has contacted parents to come forward for a booster or catch-up polio dose - parents should take up the offer as soon as possible.

    Where can you get vaccinated?

Parents have been contacted by the NHS to ask them to book an appointment. Parents should take up the offer as soon as possible.

Parents and guardians can check their child’s red book or can speak to their General Practitioner (GP) if they are unsure if their child has received this vaccine.

If you are not yet registered with a GP, details on how to find and register with a GP can be found at GP services by visiting

GPs treat all common medical conditions and provide immunisations to adults and children.

Children aged between 1 and 4 years old

Parents with children aged between 1 and 4 are being offered an appointment at their GP practice.

Children aged between 5 and 9 years old

Parents with children aged between 5 and 9 years old can use the following link to book a vaccination appointment for your child:

It is important to come forward for the Polio booster as soon as possible.

We are working on increasing the number of sites offering the polio vaccine across North West London - more vaccination clinics will be opening soon.

  • PTFA Outcomes from the PTFA meeting

    Wed 14 Sep 2022 PTFA

Thank you to those parents that attended one of the two meetings held by the PTFA this week (Monday 12 September).  It was great to welcome new parents to Fielding who have joined the school this academic year.

During the meeting we discussed a number of events that could be planned over the next six months which included a Magic Show, Plant Sale, Pantomime and Comedy Night amongst others.

The PTFA normally requests that each Year Group take responsibility for organising at least one school-wide event each year (on top of thier involvement in the Christmas and Summer Fair).  Year 3 have agreed to look at running a disco with different age groups along with an adult only version.  Year 1 is looking to run a Movie afternoon - possibly in October or November.

If you would like to discuss an event for your year group to organise please contact your class reps who will be able to confer with other class reps in the year group.

The other major area discussed at the meeting was the need to replace a number of roles that will become vacant on the PTFA committee at the AGM on Tuesday 4 October.  The Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer, one co-secretary and the Comms parents will be stepping down.  If you are able to give a bit of your time toward PTFA activities then please reach out to us on fieldingPTFA@gmail.com

  • PTFA Fielding Eggs Back on sale for this half term!

With the start of a new academic year the PTFA are pleased to announce that Fielding Eggs are back on sale!  Thank you to those Fielding families who helped look after the chickens over the summer break.

We have now opened up the ticketing website to allow two families each week to secure 50% of the eggs that are laid that week. At the moment this is between 20-22 eggs as one of the chickens is moulting.

If you would like to be one of those families, click on the link and select the week.

Wed 14 Sep 2022 Clare Haines

If you have arranged for your child to be collected by another parent or family member please let us know as soon as possible so that a message can get to the class teacher in good time.

It would be great if you could let us know via email (admin@fielding.ealing.sch.uk) or phone 020 8567 9524 by 2.30pm. We know from time to time that emergencies may happen and that this might not be possible.

  • Does your child suffer from Asthma? #AskAboutAsthma campaign 3-9 October

Tue 13 Sep 2022 Jacqui Lacey

The NW London ICS Children's and Young People (CYP) Communication Group is asking all schools to take part in the 2022 #AskAboutAsthma campaign which will run from 3-9 October

This coincides with a time of year when there are more asthma attacks, following pupils’ return from the school holidays.

Please check that you have individual asthma action plans in place – or a school-wide plan. As part of the school admissions process, all schools (mainstream and special schools) should complete a health check.

If a child has asthma, parents should be asked to share the asthma action plan with the school, or the GP can be contacted directly for a copy. GPs are responsible for providing an asthma action plan (unless the child has more significant asthma difficulties where they are seen by specialist services).

Four ways to manage to manage asthma:

    1. Get an asthma action plan in place
    2. Understand how to use inhalers correctly
    3. Schedule an asthma review – every year and after every attack
    4. Consider air pollution and its impact on lung health.

  • State Funeral bank holiday: Monday 19th September

Mon 12 Sep 2022 Peter Dunmall

School and Nursery are closed on Monday 19th September for the State Funeral. The school is closed on this bank holiday as a mark of respect.

There are 2 changes to our organisation and arrangements:

    • parent consultation meetings, due to take place on 19th September are cancelled. New parent consultation appointments will take place on Monday 3rd October. Our systems will not allow appointments to be automatically transferred to the new date. Please book your new appointment from 9.30am today.
    • class 5H cooking and gardening, will move to Wednesday 21st September (afternoon).
  • Years 3,4,5 & 6 ordering school meals is coming soon

Mon 12 Sep 2022 Peter Dunmall

We are switching to ordering individual meals for each pupil in advance from Monday 26th September. We are making these changes because we need to:

    • better match the meals pupils choose to eat to the food that we serve;
    • we want to reduce the amount of food that is cooked and wasted each day.

Get ready and start ordering your child's meals from now using the website, www.parents.feedinghungryminds.co.uk

    1. Register or login to your account
    2. Add a child to your account
    3. Top up your balance
    4. Order meals
    5. Change or cancel meal choices, if needed

Parents already use steps 1,2 & 3 to manage your child's school meal account. Steps 4 & 5 are new.

Find out more and get help:

Please help us to better match the food we serve to the meals that pupils want to eat so that we reduce food waste.

At the moment, we estimate the amount of food we need to cook based on previous weeks. We do not want to run out of food during a meal service so too much food gets cooked. Ordering in advance will help us better match the amount of food cooked to the meals we serve.

For Reception, year 1 & 2 pupils, family style service and free school meals for all continues. There is no need to order meals in advance using this system.

Nursery lunch and afternoon tea continues, unchanged. There is no need to order meals in advance using this system.
