  • Reminder - Cooking curriculum contribution £12

    Thu 13 Oct 2022 Jane Peterson

    We are very proud to provide a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to attend cooking sessions during the school day. An annual voluntary contribution of £12.00 was added to MCAS to cover the cost of ingredients. This is required to supplement the fresh ingredients provided from the school garden and covers the whole school year.

    However, only 20% of parents have paid and whilst this contribution is voluntary, we cannot continue to provide opportunities such as this without your continued support.

    To make a payment, please log into your MCAS account and select the 'Products' icon and then 'Voluntary Contributions' from the left hand menu.

    Many thanks to those parents who have already paid.

  • 1st Place for Fielding’s KS2 Bowling team for the first time ever!!!

    Wed 12 Oct 2022 Natasha Pasha

    Today Fielding took 2 teams to a Tenpin Bowling Competition at Tenpin in Acton. The Competition was hosted by the Featherstone Sports Partnership & Panathlon Challenge team.

    We had 6 bowlers in each team who were each trying to bowl as many strikes and spares as they possibly could to be classed the Hotshot of the competition. After everyone had completed their game of bowling, scores were added up and each team had an average score calculated.

    We were very pleased to find out that one of our teams had finished 1st place and our second team finished 4th place out of 14 schools.  As a result of our win, Fielding will be going through to the finals at the London Heathrow Youth games.

    A massive congratulations to Alice McCauley (4S) who was awarded the Hotshot of the competition as she scored the most strikes and spares in the entire competition.

    I am also delighted to announce that Kit (6S) scored 102 points and is part of the Panathlon 100 club.

    A huge well done to all our bowlers today, you were all fantastic!

    Thank you to Team 1: Kit (6S), Reni (5H), Szymon (4S), Alice (4S), Ellie (4P), Elisa (3P).

    Thank you to Team 2: Grace (6S), Quinn (5S), Dylan L (5H), William (4F), Freya (4P), Alivia (3S)

  • Year 5 & 6 Cross Country Borough competition 4th place out of 26 schools in Ealing

    Tue 11 Oct 2022 Natasha Pasha

    Provisional results are in and unless there are deemed to be any discrepancies by competing schools Fielding came 4th out of 26 schools in the borough of Ealing.

    Fielding took a team of 40 children from years 5 & 6. The runners were divided into Year 5 girls, Year 5 boys, Year 6 girls and Year 6 boys race each of them measuring 1.5km. Every one of our team completed their race with many looking like they achieved excellent times too.

    We were also very happy to see Marin (5P) coming 1st place in the Year 5 Girls race and Josh (6F) coming 2nd place in the Year 6 Boys race with over 150 runners in both races. This is a remarkable achievement for Fielding.

  • Artificial grass pitch opens to pupils

    Wed 05 Oct 2022 Peter Dunmall

    Our artificial grass pitch is open for use by pupils. Pupils are using the new all-weather, artificial grass pitch for PE lessons, ball games during break times and after-school club. Competitions against other schools will follow soon.

    After half-term, our specialist sports clubs restart. Our outside providers, including Ealing Trailfinders and QPR are looking forward to using the stunning new facilities with our pupils. New floodlights enable us to use the pitch all year round, giving pupils more opportunities to play sport at school.

    From January 2023, local sports groups will also use the new grass pitch between 6-10pm weekdays and at weekends. We are talking to 4 local sports clubs about hiring our pitch. We will make links with these clubs, supporting our pupils with routes into sport beyond Fielding.

    Remaining works are expected to be finished around 20th October. Works include:

    • resurfacing and making good as soon as we can;
    • rebuilding the mound around the sandpit and pirate ship so that it no longer erodes away and refreshing the sand;
    • replacing log climbing stacks;
    • cultivating, adding drainage and reseeding the school field to create better natural grass pitches;
    • drainage to meet Thames Water's requirements.

    The Fielding Walk pedestrian entrance will re-open after half-term, earlier if possible.

  • One of the single biggest ways to help your child

    Wed 05 Oct 2022 Peter Dunmall

    Reading a book to your child and hearing them read their book back to you at home are some of the biggest ways parents can help children succeed at primary school.

    Regular reading at home for around 5 times a week is some of the best homework. It should include:

    • Nursery children, reading aloud favourite picture books to your child, over and over again. Children benefit from books with strong rhythm and rhyme which helps them make predictions about what's coming next. Traditional tales, top children's picture book authors, songs and rhymes are recommended.
    • Reception children, as Nursery but also starting to hear children read their own school reading book. These books are matched to the sounds that they know from learning in school. Reading and re-reading over and over again helps children develop fluency and read automatically. This comes from practice.
    • Year 1 and into Year 2, as Reception with reading more and more sounds, blended into longer words and sentences. Pupils become increasingly fluent and automatic when reading, pausing less to decode (break the words down into their sounds) words. Pupils begin to focus on talking more about meaning and understanding from the text.
    • Year 3 onwards, increasing choice of books, based on our recommended reading books but not feeling constrained by these books. Pupils might read aloud to an adult and/or as they get older read to themselves. Talking to an adult about meaning, checking understanding of the text and unfamiliar words along with any inference, 'reading between the lines' and making links between the book and their own life experience is a great use of adult time.

    Adults should sign our reading record to show that children are reading at home regularly. A written comment is not always needed.

    Every bit of reading at home helps and is very welcome.
