Fielding
Primary School and Nursery
Keep up to date with all the news happening in the school at the moment. Articles are added during the week. Parents are encouraged to check regularly. Our weekly bulletin, emailed directly to parents, summarises content for the week.
On Friday 30th June Fielding Primary School was visited by a judge from the London Children's Flower Society to judge our garden for their summer competition. Some pupils from the school helped show the judge around the garden and talk to her about their gardening experiences at Fielding. We were awarded a Gold certificate for our effort and hard work. This award has been earned by all the children at the school who happily weed, water, plant, prune and deadhead when they come to the garden for lessons. Particular thanks go to Alissa, Alina, Audree and Maria (and other friends) from 5H who frequently spend part of their lunch breaks doing jobs in the garden.
As a result of our annual parent survey we said we would take a look at what pupils were being asked to complete at home. Some parents thought their children were doing too much, while others thought the homework given wasn't enough. Some parents wondered about the value of the 'Creative Home Learning' task.
We have now completed our research into this and will be making some changes from September. We will maintain the expectation that children must read every day to, or with, an adult and use of Times Table Rockstars/Numbots.
The research about the primary-age homework is limited, although the small amount that does exist suggests that it has minimal impact, unless it is used as an opportunity for repeat, over-learn and practise skills learnt in the classroom.
The grid below shows what we will be moving to. We have removed 'creative home learning' for all year groups. You will see that expectations increase as children progress through the school. This aims to help children be prepared for high school. The purchase of CGP books in Years 5 & 6 moves to be the choice of individual households. Teachers will continue to signpost appropriate pages to be completed and marked at home on Year group notice boards.

From September, all primary aged pupils in London are eligible for free school lunches.
The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, will provide the funding to schools as an emergency cost of living support measure for parents.
The Mayor says that families are in need of support. The meals will help families with the cost of living by ensuring that children in all state-funded London primary schools will receive free school meals in the next school year.
The introduction of universal free school meals for 2023-24 school year could save families up to £500 per child.
We are ready to cook more meals each day in our kitchen. Get ready for school meals:
