  • Food Glorious Food! Does your child like vegetables?

Thu 07 Sep 2023 Clare Haines

Every child can now have a free school meal catered by our ISS team, thanks to funding from the London Mayor's office. This term in school we are focusing on healthy choices and reducing food waste.

Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 continue to have 'family style' service. Pupils in Years 3-6 will be served at the counter. All pupils with the exception of those who have a special diet requirement will be served the main meal from the menu (YR-2) or asked to select from the main choices.

Children who have a school meal will have the daily vegetable(s) added to their plate. They will be encouraged to try them by our fantastic front of house dining team.

Children will also be reminded to:

    • only take one piece of bread
    • add salad to their meal
    • not throw food away

Class teachers are also encouraging pupils to try new things at lunch time. It would be great if you could talk to your child about this too.

    Packed Lunches

Children who have a packed lunch should have a balanced diet across a week. For example having a bag of crisps on one day a week is fine, every day however, is not. To help we are asking that you don't include any crisps, chocolate or sugary snacks. Drinks with a high sugar content should be minimal, eg fruit juice.  Water is available for all. Take a look at the NHS healthier lunchbox website for more information:

Stuck for ideas or wondering about portion size? This guide from My Healthy Living is very useful. It also has some great ideas on what you could swap sugary snacks for:

Packed lunches should be nut and nut product free.

We will be asking pupils who do not eat all of their packed lunch to take home what they have not eaten so that you can see what they have left.

    Snacks

Children in Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and 2 are provided a fruit snack, no need to send one in. However if you do please check the following:

    • break-time snacks should be fruit only
    • children should not share their snacks with each other to limit potential exposure to allergens.
  • PTFA Fielding Eggs Back on sale for this term!

    Wed 06 Sep 2023 PTFA

With the start of a new academic year the PTFA are pleased to announce that Fielding Eggs are back on sale!  Thank you to those Fielding families who helped look after the chickens over the summer break.

Sadly, we lost one of the hens and so we are down to three that are laying eggs. This means that we will only have enough eggs each week for one family to purchase.  We think that there will be between 12-15 eggs each week.

If you would like to be one of those families, click on the link and select the week. https://www.tickettailor.com/events/fieldingptfa/764678#

  • PTFA Kick-Off Meeting: 11 September 10am & 8.30pm

    Wed 06 Sep 2023 PTFA

The PTFA will hold its first online meeting for this academic year on Monday 11 September to welcome new parents, new reps and updates on PTFA spending commitments.

We'll be thinking about events planned for the year ahead which have previously included pupil focussed events like Magic Shows, Circus, Movie Afternoons, Photo Competition and Sunflower Competitions to more adult related activities including Quiz Nights and Comedy.  The meeting will also look at where we might spend the £55,000 raised from last year.

Committee members will be on hand to chat through the roles that need to be filled for the coming year (which are appointed at the AGM in Oct), so if you are keen to get involved in any of the activities then please do join the call.

The morning session with Mr Dunmall will start at 10am via zoom (register via https://bit.ly/3RgnlyV) whilst the evening session will start at 8.30pm also via zoom (register via https://bit.ly/44LzoqS).

We ask that all Class Reps attend, but of course any parent is welcome as we will be giving an overview of our activities.  Any questions in advance can be sent to fieldingPTFA@gmail.com

  • Is your child well enough to come to school?

Wed 06 Sep 2023 Clare Haines

We know it can be tricky deciding whether or not to keep your child off school when they're unwell.

There is wide agreement among health professionals and educational professionals that school attendance is vital to the life chances of children . Being in school improves health, wellbeing and friendships. The greatest benefits come from children attending school regularly.

It is okay to send your child to school with mild respiratory illnesses. This includes general cold symptoms: a minor cough, runny nose or sore throat. Children should not be sent to school if they have a temperature of 38°C or above.

If you do keep your child at home, it's important to phone us on the first day of absence by 8.45am. Let us know that your child won't be in and give the reason.

If your child is well enough to come to school but has an infection that could be passed on, such as a cold sore or head lice, let their teacher know or send us an email to admin@fielding.ealing.sch.uk.

    NHS guidance says:

    • Coughs and colds

It's fine to send your child to school with a minor cough or common cold. But if they have a fever, keep them off school until the fever goes. Encourage your child to throw away any used tissues and to wash their hands regularly.

    • High temperature

If your child has a high temperature, keep them off school until it goes away.

    • Other illnesses

    Please check the NHS guidance.

  • Weekend chicken sitting - Autumn term

Tue 05 Sep 2023 Elise Laird

Would you like to do some weekend chicken-sitting in the autumn term this year? We are looking for volunteers to feed and give water to our three remaining friendly chickens. Volunteers can keep any of the eggs that the chickens lay over the weekend.

An online sign-up sheet for September-December weekends can be found here. Please leave your email so that you can be sent access and feeding information closer to the time.

  • Sad chicken news

Tue 05 Sep 2023 Elise Laird

Unfortunately there was very sad garden news over the summer. Arrietty the chicken (green leg band for those that knew her that way) was attacked and killed by a neighbourhood fox. There are often foxes that roam the school field in the evening and sadly they managed to get to Arrietty. Thankfully the three remaining chickens, Bess, Marcy and Matilda, are all well and appear to have recovered from the trauma of losing their coop buddy. When the classes start visiting the garden for lessons again our remaining chickens will each have to get used to receiving even more attention.

  • PTFA: Who are your fellow class parents/new parents?

    Mon 04 Sep 2023 PTFA

Fielding prides itself on its community atmosphere and for new families to the school this can be a daunting task.  The PTFA at Fielding uses a platform called ClassList which matches the pupils' name to the parent(s) in their class.  ClassList also doubles up as a communications function for the PTFA for news, events and fundraising efforts. You'll also be able to find out who your Class Rep is (although we have a few gaps across the school) and hear from parents about where last year's £55,000 is being spent.

ClassList can be downloaded as an app or used via a web browser.  You can decide how regularly you want to receive information - normally a weekly email on a Thursday will suffice.

Sign up to your class today https://bit.ly/3P4bEIJ and select the class that your child is in.

  • Rent your driveway to staff for car parking

Mon 04 Sep 2023 Peter Dunmall

Are you interested in renting your driveway car parking space to a member of school staff?

School staff work flexible hours from 7.30am to 6pm depending on their role, Monday to Friday. Most members of staff work term-time only: some work all year round.

If you have a space and would be interesting in renting it to a member of school staff, please contact the school:

    • Email: admin@fielding.ealing.sch.uk, marked Driveway for rent

    Please tell us:

    • your contact details - name, phone, email
    • address of property and/or driveway space
    • rental fee

We will then circulate your details to school staff. Any arrangement is between you and an individual member of staff and does not involve the school.
