Fielding
Primary School and Nursery
Keep up to date with all the news happening in the school at the moment. Articles are added during the week. Parents are encouraged to check regularly. Our weekly bulletin, emailed directly to parents, summarises content for the week.
There are quite a few things to do, but the finished yearbook will hopefully be worth it and be a great way for your children to remember their time at Fielding! If you have any queries about what to do please send them to fieldingleavers2016@gmail.com with your class name in the subject line. http://www.fieldingprimary.com/year-6-3/
Ramadan begins on the 6th June 2016. For Muslims, this is the month of Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. For an entire month believers will fast during the day. We recognise that although fasting for the entire month does not become obligatory until the age of puberty, sometimes Muslim children begin to fast before this age. Children can get a sense of achievement joining families in taking part in the spirit of Ramadan. If you and your child have decided to fast during this holy period, please complete the attached form and return to the school office by Monday 23rd May 2016.
This week in Year 3 we have been developing our multiplication knowledge through division. The children have explored chunking method, investigating how we can use it to simplify divisions using greater numbers. We have then looked at its relationship to a familiar method, repeated subtraction, creating links between the two methods in order to give greater depth to our learning. Time has been given for children to practice the two methods to ensure they are secure, with opportunity’s to apply their knowledge through deconstructing WAGOLLs, identifying mistakes in work and coaching others. Children are now challenging themselves further with a range of problem solving activities for them to solve. It is clear the work children have been putting in to learn their times tables and the impact this is having on their ability to use mental strategies to work through formal written methods. Miss McGee commented, ‘The children have really enjoyed the challenge of the application tasks and the opportunity to work through multi-step problems.’
A big shout out to Year 6 who have been working extremely hard for their upcoming end of Key-stage 2 tests (commonly known as Sats) next week. There are only a few more days to go until they begin (and then not long until the Isle of Wight!) so keep up the hard work in school and revision at home. Remember to take some time to relax over the weekend too.
The test timetable can be found on the Year 6 Noticeboard.
