  • KS2 Lunch Monitors

    Thu 12 May 2016

    New for the summer term

Pupils have been telling us that they want to be more involved in helping out around school, and what better way than to volunteer time during their lunch break? 112 pupils in KS2 responded to a job advert asking for volunteers to do the following duties during lunchtime: Reception/KS1 monitor, bread or water monitor and table monitor. Today, the new Lunch Monitors were given their job offer letters detailing their responsibilities. “We were overwhelmed with the response to the job advert for Lunch Monitors. All applications were extremely strong, with a wide range of skills and expertise from the pupils.” Explained Mrs.Tate, Assistant Head.

Due to a high number of applications, there is a two-week rota (Cycle A and Cycle B). This will mean that some children will start their lunchtime half an hour early, one day every two weeks. “I am so happy to be selected to be a Lunch Monitor. I want to do all I can to help the school.” Commented Lily, Year 5.

  • Year 2 Writing a balanced argument

    Thu 12 May 2016

    Should we save the environment?

During the past few weeks the pupils in year two have been focusing on the book ‘Dinosaurs and all that rubbish.’ The pupils have been creating a balanced argument based on the environment. At the beginning of the week pupils didn’t understand how to create a balanced argument or even what it was. Therefore the first task was to unpick the WAGOLL (what a good one looks like) and discuss the Rubric. The pupils were able to talk about and explore all the different features needed to create a balanced argument. The pupils used this new found knowledge to produce a plan.  Mrs Tate, 2P, explained, "Creating a balanced argument isn’t easy for anyone but the pupils really showed the value of resilience. Through doing this they were able to achieve the goals and objectives of the lesson.” After, the children had produced their plan they used the information to create their very own balanced argument. The work produced by the pupils was amazing. Their arguments had opinions from both sides, rhetorical questions, commands and exclamations. All these features combined to make an excellent final piece of work.

  • Year 3 camp out

    Mon 09 May 2016 Miss L Stabler

Exciting opportunity to build independence in our Year 3 children through our first Fielding Camp out

With the weather warming and May already ticking by, we are getting closer to our first Fielding camp out. This very exciting adventure has been designed to give children the opportunity to spend a night away from home in the safe and exciting environment of school with all their classmates. The company that is hosting the event has planned a range of activities including: creating land art, fire lighting, shelter  building,  purifying water to make it drinkable and range of team building games. There will also be a campfire (with snacks) in the evening before children head to bed in their group tents. Camp and school staff will then patrol the site until everyone has settled in for the night. To ensure we have plenty of time to do all of the activities they will continue the next day until around 3pm. Children who are not attending the camp out will be in regular lessons during this time.

We are hoping to see as many children as possible there to make it a truly memorable occasion. If you have any concerns regarding anything, including cost (total cost is £39) please see the Year Three team or Miss Stabler.
