  • February Half Term Nursery Holiday Club

Wed 24 Jan 2024 Tracy Cherry

The February half term is almost upon us and places are  already proving to be very popular. Nursery holiday club will be running Monday 12th to Friday 16th February 2024.

Nursery are planning a fun filled week with activities such as cooking, lots of art, craft and sensory activities. This half term we will be making and baking Shortbread Hearts and fruit skewers to enjoy. We are also thinking about the birds as Spring emerges and will be making some fat balls to hang in our trees for the hungry birds to enjoy.

We will be thinking about the people we love and will be making heart wreaths and using heart shaped sequins and shapes to make pictures and collages. Please look out for these in your child’s bag or in the tray outside the Dragonfly Class.

There will be plenty of outdoor play and visits to the Pirate Ship, MUGA and Fielding Forest. There will be parachute and circle games, both in the sports hall and in the MUGA, these are always a lot of fun, and the children will be using their listening skills that they've been learning in Nursery.

  • Invacuation 'lockdown' drill, keeping children safe

Wed 24 Jan 2024 Clare Haines

This week pupils and staff practised our invacuation drill as part of our regular safety checks.. Each half term we drill both our invacuation and our evacuation procedures. It is important that we put procedures in place and plan even for those events that are very unlikely to occur.

What is an invacuation and when would it happen?

An invacuation, sometimes referred to as a lockdown procedure,  is a standard safety procedure, similar to an emergency evacuation/fire drill. This procedure would be used if there is a threat to the safety of pupils, staff and others in  school, and when it’s safer for everyone to remain in the school building rather than evacuate.
Situations where our invacuation procedure may be used include:

    • a potentially dangerous person or dog on the school site
    • an alert from the police about a disturbance or dangerous situation in the local community that could affect the school
    • a nearby chemical incident or other risk of air pollution
    • an incident related to terrorism.

    What is the invacuation procedure?

When we initiate the invacuation procedure, everyone in school will be alerted by the sounding of a specific alarm. Staff have been trained to follow procedures and ensure that, as in the case of a fire evacuation, everyone is safe.
During a drill/event pupils will either stay in their classroom, or if outside on the field or artificial pitch, will make there way into the nearest classroom, and wait quietly until the event or drill is given the 'all clear'.

  • 4th Place at West London Bowling Finals

Mon 22 Jan 2024 Natasha Pasha

Fielding's KS2 Bowling team secured a noteworthy 4th place among 11 competing schools. This achievement is a testament to the teamwork and skill of the young bowlers. Their stellar performance showcased a blend of precision using the bowling ramp and strategy as they navigated various angles to roll the bowling ball.

Thank you to Laila (6S) for her remarkable achievement in the bowling competition, scoring an impressive 100 points and contributing significantly to the team's success.

    A special thanks to...

    Laila (6S), Alex B (5F), Martina (5S), Louis (4P), Millie (3P)

  • Punctuality and why it is important, including a slight change to soft start arrangements.

    Fri 19 Jan 2024 Marsha Coppin-Payne

Arriving on time for school is one of the best ways to help your child reach their full learning potential. Research shows that arriving just 5 minutes late each day can impact the amount of lessons they miss.

    • Arriving 5 minutes late every day, roughly adds up to  over 3 days lost each year

    • Arriving 15 minutes late every day, roughly adds up to 2 weeks absence a year

    • Arriving 30 minutes late every day, roughly adds up to 19 days absence a year

Please support your children with this by ensuring they arrive at school on time every day.  From Monday 22nd we will have the following amended soft start arrangements in place:

    • 8:30am - School gates open at 8:30am

    • 8:45am - Classroom & external doors open.

    • 8:55am - External doors close for pupils in Years 4, 5 and 6 - so that pupils have time to get to their classrooms, put their things away and be ready for a 9am start.

    • 9:00am - All classes, registration. Lessons begin immediately after registration.

When children arrive late it can be disruptive for the class teacher and the other children in the class. It is also unsettling for the child, because they may  miss the important instructions for the first lesson of the day.

Children who arrive at school after the doors have closed  are late, they should go to the office to sign in via the main reception.

  • Has your child received a positive note this week? Find out more about how we reward positive behaviour.

Thu 18 Jan 2024 Clare Haines

Did you know adults in school record positive behaviour as well as unacceptable behaviour on MCAS?

Teachers and other adults in school add a positive note to MCAS to recognise positive achievements, acts of kindness, going over and above to show the school values.

Pupils are rewarded in many others ways in school too. these include:

    • praise, for doing the right things, following our school values, being polite, helping others.
    • a star token 'positive point', for making good choices throughout the day,

Positive points are also awarded for:

    • Star of the Week certificate, linked to excellent work - awarded in assembly
    • Values Ambassador certificate, for demonstrating our school values, awarded in assemblies
    • Reading certificates for reading books from our recommended lists, awarded in assemblies
    • Values Baccalaureate, for completing each of 4 levels of our baccalaureate

Positive points all contribute towards team constellation points and individual certificates for pupils.

You can see a record of these rewards on MCAS in the behaviour widget or by selecting behaviour from the left hand menu bar.

Find out more about how we support and manage pupils behaviour in school here:

  • Reminder your child's assessment results will be published on 25th January on MCAS

Wed 17 Jan 2024 Clare Haines

    Sharing your child's progress

Assessment results for pupils in the main school will be available on MCAS (My Child at School) from 25th January. They will not be available on the app version of MCAS.

For pupils in the ARP, assessments will be shared with parents at the upcoming parent consultation meetings.

If your child was absent during the first two weeks of term, they may have missed some of the assessments, this means their assessment information on MCAS may not be uptodate.

If your child is in the ARP, instead of receiving assessment information via MCAS  you will receive a printed version of their assessment outcomes when you attend your parent consultation meeting.

There will be an opportunity to discuss the assessments at the parent consultation meetings coming up, See this news article for more details

  • Launch of the Better Health Start for Life 'Little Moments Together' Campaign.

Wed 17 Jan 2024 Tracy Cherry

On 15th January the Department for Education (DfE), in partnership with the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), launched the Better Health Start for Life 'Little Moments Together' Campaign.

The campaign aims to share with parents the importance of brain development in the first five years of a child’s life, and the crucial role they play, with advice and tips available on the Start for Life website.

Early childhood is a crucial time for brain development, when a young, developing brain changes shape and size in response to everything it encounters. This early-stage development is relatively unknown among parents, which presents an opportunity for the campaign to break down the science in an accessible way for parents.

Did you know…. In our first five years our brain develops faster than any other time in our lives. It doubles in size in the first year and 90% of brain growth happens by the age of five! Watch the video here

    Early learning and development

Right from the start, all those little moments you spend together with your child are building their brain. Every smile, cuddle, chat, and game make a huge difference, helping them learn to communicate, develop confidence, and make friends.

Why the ‘Little Moments Together’ are so important

Too many children in the UK start school developmentally months behind their peers, particularly in speech and language ability. This gap often widens over time, particularly in disadvantaged groups, with children who have poor vocabulary skills at age five being less

likely to succeed academically. They are also up to twice as likely to be unemployed in their thirties.

The Better Health Start for Life website has a wealth of information for 0-5 year olds, including activities indoors and out, feeding, speech & language development, videos, tips, routines  and much more!
