  • What you told us, parent survey results

    Thu 07 Feb 2019 Clare Haines

    Thank you for your responses to the Annual Parent Survey

    This year we had a lower response rate than previous years with responses from 276 families representing 362 pupils, this is down from 434 pupils last year.

    You told us that the things you most like about Fielding are:

    • Teaching and learning including the ‘quality’ and ‘commitment’ and ‘the calibre of teachers who seem dedicated, professional and focused on bringing the best out of their students, and themselves’ (90, comments down from 113 comments last year);
    • Outdoor space and environment, including the ‘lovely new kitchen garden’ chickens, forest, field and all of our facilities (67 comments, up from 36 comments last year);
    • Values-based education, including, our welcoming, friendly ethos (63 comments, up from 33 last year);
    • The caring, nurturing environment, including warm and friendly staff (46 comments, new for this year!);
    • Opportunities for sport, music, teams and specialist teaching (29 comments, up from 24 comments last year);
    • The sense of community, including a ‘small school feel’ but all the opportunities and benefits of size (29 comments, down from 35 comments last year).
    • Variety of clubs and childcare (23 comments, new for this year).

    You told us that the things you would like to change most are:

    • Communication, majority recognised this has improved but would like to see it more streamlined, some would like more communication with teachers, others more communication about progress. (34 comments in total related to communication, down from 41 comments last year);
    • Nothing! (19 responses)
    • Clubs, including availability and booking arrangements (23 comments, same as last year); 15 comments related directly to booking system, Others to variety of clubs available.
    • More support for teachers in class (16 comments, new for this year)
    • Implementation of the behaviour policy, consistency (12 comments, down from 15 comments last year); this is a change to last year where comments were mainly about playground supervision.

    We are delighted that our main strengths have been so positively recognised by parents. The Governing Body and school leaders will begin to consider the highlighted areas for improvement over the next few months. We also recognise that some parents have highlighted other individual strengths and areas for development.

  • School Pupil Tracker is closing, changes to assessment

    Wed 06 Feb 2019 Clare Haines

    School Pupil Tracker is closing in December 2019.

    We will not be able to use it after the end of this academic year, your child's reports and assessments will be available for download until the end of the calendar year.

    A new Ofsted inspection framework, due in September 2019, and changes from the Department for Education (DfE) mean that over the next few years there will be some changes in the way schools are required to measure and report progress, because of this the owners of School Pupil Tracker have decided it is time to end the life of the product. We are seeing this as an opportunity to review the way we assess and record your child's progress.

    The Department for Education (DfE) are planning to make the following changes:

    • reduce burdens for teachers by removing the requirement to carry out statutory teacher assessments in English reading and mathematics at the end of key stage 2 from the 2018 to 2019 academic year onwards
    • improve the early years foundation stage profile, including revising the Early Learning Goals to make them clearer and align them more closely with teaching in key stage 1
    • introduce an online multiplication tables check, to be taken by pupils at the end of year 4, from the 2019 to 2020 academic year onwards
    • introduce a new assessment at the start of reception from September 2020 to act as the start point for measuring progress, so we can give schools credit for the progress they help pupils make in reception, year one and year two
    • remove the statutory status of end-of-key stage 1 assessments at the earliest possible point, from the 2022 to 2023 academic year, once the reception baseline is fully established.

    Ofsted will be placing less emphasis on assessment records and tracking, they will also be considering teacher workload.

    As we move into this time of change we will be reviewing our assessment principles and procedures. The main things we need our new assessment system to do are:

    • to show which children are on track and making progress and those who aren't
    • inform teaching
    • report progress to parents

    We have already begun to test the market and have met with a number of providers of assessment recording and tracking systems.

    Once we have decided on our next steps we will communicate this with you, in the meantime if you wish to keep any information that is currently stored on SPTO then you will need to download it before the end of December. We will continue to use SPTO in the usual way until the end of this academic year.

  • PTFA Fund Raising Update - Feb 2019

    Wed 06 Feb 2019 PTFA

    Thank you everyone for the support you have given us in the first six months of the academic year. The PTFA have run several events during this period including the Christmas Fair, Pantomime, Halloween Trail, Movie Afternoon, Roller Skating....and not forgetting the weekly cake sales.
    Our biggest fund raiser of the year is of course the Christmas Fair. If you didn't manage to attend the PTFA meeting last month then you may not know that the Fair raised a record £12,500 in profit (£1,400 more than last year). This includes the Raffle which raised an important £2,000 along with Hot Food, Silent Auction and the Bottle Tombola - which all raised over £1,000 each.
    The Pantomime, also held in December raised another £2,700 in profit - not bad for its first outing (oh yes it is). The weekly cake sales also contributed over £2,200 (up to end of 2018) and the Christmas Cards raised nearly £900.
    Overall, we started the new year with nearly £20,000 raised. Looking forward to March, the PTFA will be running the 'sold out' Quiz Night on 1 March, the ever popular disco (9 March), the Mother's Day Gift Shop (last week before Easter), and the Photographic Competition.
    As you know, the events do not happen without volunteers....so thank you again for all those who have helped on PTFA events so far this academic year.

    We are worried however that the disco - run as a free event for the children in Years 1-6, may not take place due to lack of volunteers. If you feel you can help set up this event, please email fieldingptfaevents@gmail.com. We are also looking for help in the running of the Mother's Day Gift Shop - which is just an hour of your time.

    We'll be circulating the bids from the school shortly so look out for more details on where our funds will be spent.

    Thanks again.

  • School Disco and Easter Trail needs your help

    Wed 06 Feb 2019 PTFA

    The Fielding PTFA needs organisers for the popular School Disco on Saturday 9 March otherwise it is unable to go ahead.

    What's involved?

    The previous organising team is happy to handover all the information needed to organise a great event. The DJ is even booked for 9th March. It's simple tasks such as organising timings of the disco, getting stock for the refreshments stall and putting a rota together for volunteers.

    The PTFA Easter trail on Friday 5 April also needs organisers. The previous team has all the details and is happy to help in the handover. The trail is similar to the Halloween trail but runs inside the school grounds with a treat at the end.

    Please email fieldingptfaevents@gmail.com if you can volunteer for either event.

    Thank you for your ongoing support.

  • Attendance Policy 2019

    Fri 01 Feb 2019

    In guidance with the London Borough of Ealing and the Educational Social Worker, changes have been made to the Attendance Policy. These changes have been highlighted in Yellow. Regular attendance at school promotes pupils well-being, maximises progress in learning and helps pupils reach their potential. The attendance pattern for all children is monitored weekly with the school seeking to work actively with parents to ensure a regular pattern is maintained.
